yes, as long as you avoid audio rate and only modulate the inherent parameters of the synth i would expect it to be totally uncontroversial. they are essentially just a shortcut to recording automation.

Interested in the answer to this: I've been avoiding using the modulators in Tracktion Waveform just in case...

Like emikaela said, modulation of synth parameters is fine. Just keep it below audio rate.

Not OSC-related as such; it's sampling, so it's hard to defend this one as a theme for a challenge. But it's summer, and not much going on in this thread anyway, so I hope you'll forgive me.

I was burnt out on my OSC entry, and after I submitted it yesterday I needed to blow off some steam.

So I started searching for YouTube content uploaded in the past couple of weeks, and began making instruments exclusively with the sounds I found there; an acoustic guitar pluck here, a badly tuned piano there, a bad viola player, bells, keys, typing machines. I wanted to make everything virtually unrecognizable from the source material, so there's just one loop, the congas. All other instruments/kits were built and manipulated from scratch with PreSonus' SampleOne and Impact. :)

I really enjoyed this little experiment, and I can warmly recommend it if you have some time on your hands. It was interesting and fresh to make a track with these limitations - in many ways it felt like an OSC challenge, just with sounds from the real world.

Thanks emikaela & FrogsInPants. Pleased I can easily keep on the right side of the rules.

Very nice @schiing!

I'm not sure if Asper has been mentioned as a potential synth for OSC (shame it's Windows only currently)

Hmm, the BLESS Monolit synthesizer was mentioned here. It is listed as free on the website. I downloaded it, played for five minutes, after which the sound turned off with an inscription on top of the GUI: "The demo time is over... please register the product." Rebooting gives me another five minutes, but that's not how things are done... :x
This is one of the things you need to have a fake email for. I will not participate in the round with this scammer, although he sounds good! :hihi:

You wouldn't even get away with a fake (as in made up) email address. Because they send the download link, it has to be an email address, where you can receive mail (an fish it out of the spam folder). I ran into that problem.

Yes, thanks, I also read that discussion thread. I just don't like this approach, so I wouldn't use this synth in principle! They have more than a dozen commercial products, but they want to get something out of even one free synthesizer! Decent companies like TAL and U-He don't do that! :uhuhuh:

There's enough providers of temp mail addresses. You can receive email as well. Holly crap ... tis is internet abc. please no front ... but if those want to grab our emails and sell them then let's give them crap stuff. Either something is "free" or we pay with our data.

No, I've never dealt with temporary addresses. Really a lot of really free synthesizers exist. Why don't the developers of U-He and TAL want anything from me? Maybe because they understand that by imposing their desire to sell me something, they do not allow my own desire to buy something from them to be born? Not in vain! I have mailings from a dozen companies on my email, but their products were worth it, although Wusik (and several others) is infuriating because it spams from endless new addresses. But download a free synthesizer and only after installation find out that registration via email is required... this is my border.

Just post here a success story because I feel happy ... no not about ending 19th place ... it's my experiments with Protoplug that took a few major steps and that's very cool an rewarding

I'm now able to spin up threads with lua in protoplug and additionaly I can draw opengl stuff...
this involved a "tiny" bit of fiddling with MSys2 (environment for Windows to build stuff based on cmake), getting libraries like libwinpthread-1.dll, glfw.dll and more and adapting a few lua scripts coming from the guys from luapower. Threading and openGl was not included with out of the box protoplug ...

The screenshot shows protoplug with a opengl cube spining in a seperate window using it's own thread ... thus not distracting the audio processing. After making threads work I was today able to put openGL Code into it's won thread.
Next step will be to get imgui to work within Protoplug ... https://github.com/sonoro1234/LuaJIT-ImGui

The results this month seemed especially subjective. Maybe because it was synth1 so many people made good music that it just became more subjective than usual.

Next milestone. ImGUI is now basically available in Protoplug.
After making Threads and OpenGL (via GLFW) available in Protoplug, which you can see in my previous post ImGUI adds some more cool and important features to write cool stuff just in LUA.
The Lua-Binding for ImGUI is taken from here: https://github.com/sonoro1234/LuaJIT-ImGui. Thanks to the owner of the repo, who supported me so that I was finally able to build the stuff locally on my computer. With this cool Lua Binding as a base I only had to change some files slightly to make them work in Protoplug.

Following image shows ImGui Lua Test started from a Protoplug Instance in Bitwig.

I've been creating strange music all evening/night having a blast but finally stopped, it's getting really really late here - Thought I'd check my e-mail before sleeping… :drunk:

From ADSRsounds.com: with any purchase you get the OPL FM Synthesizer for Free - went over to discodsp's website to hear it in action just to find demos made by many of you guys!!!

@Trojakew @Theneverscene @Taron @Schiiing @PeterH @Ontrackp @mmghost
@Marks-a-whybikky @liqih @jasinski @JRuegg @H-Man @DoctorBob @Darksynthfx
@bh9090 @baalisoda @Aro @Zarf (are those I recognize at a first glance)

Pure Gold! :love: :love: :love:

I'm a little confused though, is OPL free just like the OB-Xd is?
How else could it have been an OSC synth…?
(Not such a great deal by ADSR if that is the case…) :hihi:
