I remember when I first tried Logic; I used to be an Atari user - Notator - then moved on to Logic. Shit man..! I couldn't figure out anything for ages. I HATED IT..! Every time I wanted to do stuff I would end up going back to Notator, and in those days it was only MIDI.

But gradually I got the hang of it - it does have a steep learning curve for sure. These days I know it pretty well and I personally haven't found anything else that I would replace it with.

Like I said before; each to his own.

Peace.

I hear you and appreciate your sentiments. Sorry for the passive-aggressive crap - some Mac users I know are snobby about it. I am, like many, always on the lookout for the most musical way of using these computer resources. Logic appeared to be it when it was at 5.5. I felt frustrated that I couldn't jump on the bandwagon.

Did you ever read one single comment by me about Sonar or Fruity Loops?

(Or should I better stick to my assumption that these kind of comments of yours are meant in a humorous way, and not directed at me personally? It's just that andywanders' serious answer to the same quote made me doubt my assumption...)

I was wondering already why you would jump on every Logic thread as a non Logic user. Now that's an explanation!

I allways only slag the hosts I use.
And those I love do get some pretty intense slagging because I want them to become the best.

Well, shall we say, someone's GOT to do it?

i read somewhere that logic 7 had a a kind of track preset system (my phrase) where you could save a part of your mixer as a preset - in other words you could set up your 16 channel kontakt thingie and save and recall it as one button

as a former logic user that strikes me as a great idea - now if they sorted pdc, made macs cheaper, made mac drivers for my emu and stopped making paid upgrades to osx i might get logic .....

OK that won't happen so i guess i'd just get more jealous of logic !

To be honest, such a system was longtime overdue.
SX has it since quite some while now (even VST had it allready).
The downside with Logic's way of saving channels is that it doesn't save levels, pans and sends, which makes it inferior compared to SX's way. Plus you can only save things for one channel, rather than a setup for a bunch of them.
Still not a great way to, say, transfer a drum mix from one song to another. Good for complete instrument registrations along with FX though.

you cant save multi channels - arrrrrrrrgh

what has logic got against multi out instruments - you cant freeze em - or save thir channels or set them up quickly and of course their is no pdc on anything but the first channel

such a well thought out system for so many things but ...

The do now have fx plugs that can receive midi tho ?

Sorry, don't know, but most likely it's still not exactly there (at least I haven't seen it mentioned, only version I have access to is V6).
Most of them could however allready be used in older versions, if with a little weirdness. You'll actually have to set them up as instruments (most of them do show up as such) and route a signal into them via sidechaining.
But obviously that requires another track in your arrange to be present, and another mixer object as well (one for the source, one for the MIDI controlled plugin). So it's admittedly a somewhat half-assed implementation.

Yes it's my not-so-latent unresolved anger and frustration about my own deficiencies at comprehending this host - I get extremely angry when I can't figure out something people rave about. So I am sorry if my post offended. The comments about Fruity Loosp slings and arrows were P-A nonsense. I certainly would not expect to receive such from you Dr. I do try to to do so but it is dangerous in such a context as a forum on line.

So what I would like to do is to try defeating my Logic demons by trying to understand it. If I could get a hold of the an inexpensive copy of the last PC version I would dedicate some time to it, as I know it is capable of wonders. But, I am not willing to buy a Mac.

Best,
Gordon
