Modartt updates Pianoteq to v7.5

Having denser velocity resolution in Pianoteq means that its on-the-fly modeling engine is able to approach its full potential. 128 velocity layers is certainly far superior to the 7 or 8 velocity layers in a sampled instrument, but it is nowhere near the virtually infinite palette of unique strikes that Pianoteq is capable of producing. It's really about giving the engine unique data with every hit which allows it to be truly organic.

I read that there is a bunch of pianoteq code in the new Arturia piano modelling software. It appears as though arturia outsourced the coding for it to modartt. I suspect that they've been spending their time on that.jamcat wrote: Sun Aug 28, 2022 6:36 pm It’s been over a year since the Felt presets were added (7.4), and nearly 18 months since the last new model (PETROF 284 Mistral) was released.
It’s hard to believe, but we’re just 2 months away from Pianoteq 7 being 2 years old.
Modartt had been hitting on all cylinders for a few years with 2 or 3 new packs a year, but they seem to have slowed considerably over the past couple years.
There was talk of a major Organteq update (v2) late last year, I believe, but that has so far not materialized.
I wonder what they’ve been up to.

Arturia has licensed some version of the Pianoteq engine for Piano V for 6 years. Modartt doesn't spend their time on it. They're licensing technology to Arturia, not working for them.

That's pretty weird because Piano V sounds nothing like Pianoteq, not even the earlier versions of Pianoteq. Hmmm. I guess they tweaked it... but IMO not with very flattering results I guess.

There's always room for improvement!

But what aspect of Pianoteq at its current build do we find lack of realism that could be improved? I can't hear it. Maybe some of the Sample Libraries could show a tone Pianoteq still can't reproduce.

I think the models themselves are very important to the sound. It's just like a 3D rendering engine. Just how realistic its output is depends on the details of the models it's given.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Aug 30, 2022 7:44 pm That's pretty weird because Piano V sounds nothing like Pianoteq, not even the earlier versions of Pianoteq. So while Arturia is using some version of the Pianoteq rendering engine, they are building the models that engine is rendering.
And by the way, Piano V3 is a huge improvement over V2. That may be because they're using a newer Pianoteq engine, or perhaps they've refined their piano models, or some combination of both.

I thought the same about Pianoteq 6. Until I heard Pianoteq 7.electro wrote: Tue Aug 30, 2022 8:26 pm But what aspect of Pianoteq at its current build do we find lack of realism that could be improved? I can't hear it. I definitely can hear where Organteq (which I also own) can improve. It's a bit too static. You can't hear it stressing the lung capacity of the bellows on a Bach piece pulling out all the stops.
I'm hoping Organteq 2 can do accordions.

These aren’t my screen grabs. I didn’t see it before it was fixed. But as you can see, it says “(File not available yet)”

And the upgrade graphic shows 1-6 -> 7 (despite the text saying 1-7 -> 8 ). Looking forward to trying the new version (sometime soon.. maybe)!jamcat wrote: Sun Oct 30, 2022 5:19 pm These aren’t my screen grabs. I didn’t see it before it was fixed.
