totally get this. conversely, for example, i loved pigments interface, but not the sound (so got rid of it). i definitely agree with your first sentenceVortifex wrote: Wed Jul 13, 2022 2:02 pmI choose my synth plugins by how they sound and by how much I like using them. Cost is also a factor. If the CPU hit is massive and negatively affects the process of making music on my system (see: Acustica) then it's a no from me. Can't say I've noticed Vital using much CPU though.fisherKing wrote: Wed Jul 13, 2022 1:18 pmhuh. i choose my synth plugins by mostly by how they sound. crazy, right?...![]()
If the interface is shite and using it is a pain in the arse I'm not going to buy it even if it sounds great. MOK Miniraze for example is a visual abomination, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole if it produced the sweetest tones on Earth. If the interface is bad but tolerable I might buy it, like I did with Oddity 2.

Unfortunately, the Vital is behind others. Can hear the lack of "roundness" there. I'm not sure the filters or envelopes are the reason for that.
I hope there will be some improvements.

It would be nice to understand if the difference is primarily in the filters "quality" (too digital, for example) or can instead be brought back to different envelope shapes (ie linear vs exponential and so on...). Or both?Igro wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 4:50 pmUnfortunately, the Vital is behind others. Can hear the lack of "roundness" there. I'm not sure the filters or envelopes are the reason for that.

It's hard to say, as both can contribute to this.mabian wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:13 pmIt would be nice to understand if the difference is primarily in the filters "quality" (too digital, for example) or can instead be brought back to different envelope shapes (ie linear vs exponential and so on...). As for the Vital's envelopes: the decay fading could be longer. It is neutral, but still could be longer and more natural (as it is in Pigment, for instance, which is very nice). The worst decay fading is probably in Tone2 synths.
I'm not sure how to describe it, but in the video you can hear, that with the analog synths the filter modulation sounded like "phiouuu", but in Vital like "phieee". Lol. Listen to round 4 in this video. Veeery obvious.
Again, I'm not talking about how the filter sounds in isolation, but rather how it sounds after the modulation envelope has been applied.

Decay on Vital's envelopes can be 32 seconds. The curve of the decay has a wide range.Igro wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:07 pm As for the Vital's envelopes: the decay fading could be longer. It is not about the time, it about HOW "naturally" it fades during this time. At some points it gets gated too fast to sound natural. It just abrupts (just try to compare it with free PG-8X, which sounds natural). As I said, there are some synths with a very awful decay (probably to save a CPU load)pdxindy wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:56 pmDecay on Vital's envelopes can be 32 seconds. OK. I have matched the Vitals Decay with other "good decay" synths. So I take my words here back. It just that the Vitals decay shape is not very natural (or analogue) by DEFAULT. But with a few tweaks it is "there" . Presonus S1 shows this value as -6/-7. Kudos.Igro wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 7:07 pmIt is not about the time, it about HOW "naturally" it fades during this time. OK. After some experimenting with the Vitals decay, I have finally figured out what was wrong with the Vitals sound in this video. It is the amp and filter decay curves. It was too linear in the video. And it is so because it is too linear by the default. Seems like the Venus Theory haven't tried to match them (the decay curve) with those analogue synths. This makes me to appreciate the Vital synth even more.

Yeah, the default is not so natural... and yeah, needs to be tweaked and then it fades nicely...Igro wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 7:33 pm OK. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've always felt that Vital's filters are the weakest link in the chain...
But I'm happy to listen to more informed opinions and try to better understand the situation
