No chance of that low a price. Maybe $200-240

Oh I know, I'm just saying £99 is where I'd bite.

Much too expensive, even at $100/year for everything. That money would be burnt forever.

I only see a very specific scenario when subscriptions could make sense economically. That is when you are a paid pro who needs a specific tool for just or exactly a month (maybe one or two times a year). A month is often the shortest period for renting software. Even that can be problematic. For example when you need to do a little edit/correction in a project which just takes 10 minutes to do. You would be forced to rent the software for an entire month to do that little edit.

For amateurs who don't get paid for their work or just use their software occasionally that model doesn't make any sense at all to me. Especially when subscriptions are mostly overpriced and bloated with fillers you never use.

I'm fine with paying for an occasional update for permanent licenses where the dev is forced to invest significant hours to keep their software compatible (see Apple M1 nightmare) to new platforms. In this case just Apple, not PC users, should pay for the effort.

And if we are honest we probably don't need all the shiny new toys constantly thrown at us to make music anyways.

I think they need to come up with a better solution for existing users who want to update to a new version of a plugin (maybe be redeeming older licenses, but without losing older versions for legacy project recall).

I currently have Komplete 13 and the only thing remotely interesting in Komplete 14 to me is Kontakt 7. The Komplete update is $200 but is even at half off much too expensive. Their update from any older version to the newest doesn't make sense in my case, especially when they don't offer more useful stuff with it to make that price look reasonable (to me). I know that problem is as old as Komplete itself.

So to me it looks like the next occasion to consider a Komplete update is a Komplete 15 half off sale which is many years ahead. Not a nice prospect.

This thread took an ironic twist - people falling over themselves to say why they now want subscription at low low prices rather than permanent licenses because they don't like perceived baulk. Or something. I'm waiting for the conspiracy theorist to say this is all part of Native Instrument's grand plan.

I heard from a friend who has a friend at the entrance control of NI headquarter that the whole development of Komplete is a master plan of NI to trigger demand for a subscription.

Post

Its the master plan of Soundwide. NI is history... But you need to go to Plugin Alliance to get the subscription...

...this doesn't disprove my point, but rather supports it. Once Reaktor's Core gets an update, this might also affect things on the Reaktor instruments and thus they also get a minor update, but it does not mean, they're actively developed any further. Which was the whole point in comparison the the u-he synths.

Nachdenken ist halt manchmal schwer.

No it doesn't. Let me remind you of your claim.

Well, they do do new features, and they do do bug fixing, so, you can roll your eyes as much as you want, your claims don't get any more true by doing so.

There will be an upgrade path to Kontakt 7 when it's released. It likely will be $99 and if you're like me you will put it off until one of their sales and get it for $50.

I've routinely upgraded every other version, I'm not sure why that's not a nice prospect? I went from 2, 4,5,6,9, 10U, 12U previous to 13U coming out which gave me 13U free. The period 4,5,6 I realized that it was not paying off as well to upgrade every time, if you skip a version you get a lot of new toys. The gist of why I'm just not that interested in Komplete anymore is because of the Play series and how Ultimate is just filled with protected sample content in a walled off Kontakt plug in shell that prevents you from really messing with it.
