"R" recording no longer works

pushing "r" no longer starts RECORDING, but shifts cursor to start playback from beginning!! What did I do???

I can use R for recording in other files, but for some reason, the R no longer works in the one file I had started. I can't find an "undo" for that.
Thanks for replying....I've just started the file using another name...and R works fine in the new file!!
