Envelope follower modifier

Been playing with the 'envelope follower' modifier inside a rack to duck an eq band in response to an audio trigger, but as soon as I connect the trigger track inputs to the modifer it outputs audio through the rack, even though that input is not connected to an output, only the modifier. Is there a solution for this, as I can think of lots of uses for this modifier where I wouldn't want the trigger audio reaching the output.

Ok, I can null the trigger audio by running it to the output through a volume/pan plugin with the polarity flipped. Sorted (I think, will play more)

I thought I would try to replicate it to try to help but I don't know which plugins you're using. I think the top one is an EQ but the blue one is a mystery. I can't find any plugin with 'envelope' or 'follower' in the name and the only one with 'modifier' is MIDI...

EDIT: Sorry! That's not a plugin, it's a Modifier. Duh.

Yes, it seems as though a Modifier will just route audio magically through the first two outputs. Even if you detach the audio from the EQ plugin you still get the audio from the second track going to the first track.

That has to be a bug.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I found an easier way to replicate the problem. Sound passes through this Rack:

Ok, I wasn't sure whether that would class as a bug or if it was by design. My workaround of nulling the sidechain audio with reverse polarity to the output is getting me by for now. Bit untidy tho.

Guys you are almost there, the secret is that you must manually add 2 input and outputs to the rack for the track being sidechained. See my screenshots here ....

Note that I initially started out with an empty rack on the KICK track and duplicated it to the SYNTH track, then add your Modifier and EQ to the rack in the KICK track ( which is reflected in the copied rack in the SYNTH track )

[OOPS - SOLVED] Just realised that I didn't have the LP/HP buttons engaged, but kept the following post here in case it helps someone...

Can anyone confirm that the low/high pass filters of Envelope follower have no affect on the signal passing through, i.e for example if you use a drum loop to trigger your sidechain and wanted just the lower frequencies like the kick and snare to do the 'ducking', then the higher frequencies like the hi-hats will still trigger the envelope ?
thanks.

The secret is to work with the bug rather than against it? There is no audio path from the 1st track input to the first track output but I'll bet it's getting there anyway, right?

What should you hear with this configuration? Nothing. But instead you hear the audio from tracks 2 and 3 being played on track 1. That's not right.

Correct , as you can see in my screenshots I do not have a direct audio through connection on the KICK track, but the Audio is still processed and Yes there is definitely a bug here as you would expect the audio to not be passing through unless you had the wiring connected.
I'll pass this info onto the Devs in the beta testing group.

Much appreciated!

I've found a solution for now, just turn down to -inf both the wet and dry mix levels of the rack plugin that you don't want audio to pass through. This can be done in either the properties panel or actions tab when the tracks rack plugin is highlighted/selected.

Post

The dry should be - INF by default. If it is not - INF, that would cause the audio being fed into the rack to also be mixed with the output of the rack, so that could cause the issue of audio coming out of the rack without an obvious connection to the output within the rack itself.

If the dry is - INF and that is happening, then there is most likely a bug. It should not be necessary to set wet to - INF to prevent audio from passing through if there is no connection to the rack's outputs.

Fixed in 13.5.19
