How to get Mulab Demo Version to run on Wine with same CPU performance as Windows?

Hi Guys,
Still looking at mulab to buy - I switched over to Kubuntu from Windows and have read that Mulab can run via Wine with the same sort of performance as on Windows. I've managed to install Wine staging and get Mulab to run fine but find the CPU performance when playing a demo project is reading at about 40% on my machine under Wine whereas on Windows it would run at 6 / 7%. I've not changed any audio settings although I have tinkered with it and can't seem to make any difference.
The same thing is happening for the latest FL Studio demo I've tried. That also (according to Image Line) can run at near native performance - the software runs fine under Wine but has massively different performance cpu wise like mulab when running demo projects as a simple test vs native u8nder windows.
Does anyone know what one needs to do to get Mulab set up for Audio on Ubuntu / Kubuntu - just exploring whether it possible to use this on Linux as I don't really want to go back to Windows 10 especially here in China where it's rampant with malware.
Cheers for any help .
Rick

It is not just one thing. There are numerous variables to consider, from the hardware to the kernel and the audio server. So, you can start here: https://codeberg.org/rtcqs/rtcqs. But keep in mind that there is no guarantee that your CPU usage will be the same as if you were using Windows.

Exactly the same!
I use Arch. I run rtcqs and configure my distribution to pass all tests. After that, I had no problems. However, because I mostly use MuLab's built-in instruments, I keep third-party VSTs to a minimum.

Thanks for the help I managed to get the mulab demo running at almost the same speed as Windows 10 using the cpu frequency command and installing the low latency kernel from Ubuntu studio.
Can I ask though. How can you find the wine directory when running an app in wine? I understand normally you have to display hidden files in your file manager like dolphin for KDE and the wine folder is in the home directory but I can't seem to find it when running apps through wine.
I'm tempted to just wipe windows for good now

winecfg -> Drivers
Define your drivers there, so they will show up as letters on your ML.

Hi Thanks Oldcastle.
I think you must have misread me. What I mean is I can't find the winedrive when running windows applications through wine. For example I cannot find the vst folder either through flstudio or mulab sometimes. It seems to be hidden. I understand its a hidden directory in dolphin but I can just set Dolphin or whichever file manager to show the hidden files but unsure of how to do it with windows apps in wine.
Maybe its the winecfg
Thanks again for all the help.

I'm no Linux aficionado, but wouldn't you be better using a version of Linux suited to audio production? There are a few out there.

Define your drivers and you should be able to see them.rickpress wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 6:30 am Hi Thanks Oldcastle.

I'm not surprised to be honest. Emulation layers like WINE simply add overhead, and I also doubt that they are very well optimized, especially for CPU demanding tasks like real time audio.rickpress wrote: Wed Sep 21, 2022 6:14 am Hi Guys,

Ok, 40% compared to 6 or 7% seems excessive, and probably has other reasons as well. But, as oldcastle wrote, I wouldn't expect the same performance at all.

Now that you mention it, it appears "a lot." However, I never paid attention to it because I didn't notice any problems with it in my laptop. Again, there are so many variables to consider when working with Wine.

Im using a dual boot and have managed to get the demo version of Mulab to run at the same (almost) cpu percentage as Windows - it's almost idential on wine staging 7.17. Amazing coding for what it is!
