Hello AxBC!

Duplicating a track indeed has an issue when using non-multitimbral VSTi plug-ins. It should create a new plug-in instance. At the moment it uses the same plug-in instance as the source track (like for multitimbral plug-ins).

But it should not crash, no matter which track you remove or add. I tried to reproduce the crash based on your description without success because I would love to fix this bug. Will you detail the steps required to crash RC?
Also, I would gladly examine the corrupted composition file, if possible.

Issue with Add track in RC v4.5.0b3 .

Seems like the composition file is corrupt.
Has anyone else bumped into this where you cannot add a new track?

Thanks for the replies. I had forgotten about the "add from the track instrument drop down" for multi instrument vsts.

Unfortunately, I was not writing things down yesterday when I was messing around. I was trying to recreate a chord progression I saw in a video and was trying to see what RC could come up with for Chord, Strings Staccato, and Markov Melody Generators. I liked what is generated very much.
I was using Kontakt with Amadeus Symphonic Orchestra with a Flute Ensemble, Oboe, Basson Ensemble, and a second Flute Ensemble same as the first. These are on 4 different MIDI channels, 1 to 4. I am still learning how Kontakt works and did not realize I had 4 different instruments at the time as the UI seems to only show 1 at t time and you have to scroll or collapse a slot and I did not realize that yesterday.
I"m not really sure what the sequence of steps was and I can open all 4 versions of the file today that I had saved yesterday so the files are not corrupted.
I might have been setting some of the slots to the same MIDI channel yesterday or maybe changing the Articulations when RC disappeared and I cannot repro this today.
I did notice something today when I had Kontakt open with 4 slots populated and when I delete the slot, RC appears to freeze but I discovered that I have to hover over RC in the Windows task bar to see a dialog asking me to save the changes. I would expect that dialog to be on top so I'm not sure why it isn't.
Since I'm not very familiar with Kontakt, I have to think it is something I was doing in there, so user error. If I am able to repro this in the next week and can capture steps I will let you know.

yea, there is a setting in RC that is for keeping the VST on top, if that is off, you won't have that pop up problem from Kontact. But, if you click on anything else while the VST is open, it will just go behind RC's window.

Hello mate, I really like your workflow ideas. Are you planning on making any videos on how to do modern music with RC? I've tried to look on YouTube, but all I can find is people make rock and orchestral music - couldn't find any commercial music, like the kind you hear in the clubs or on radio.

The website says modern music but yet you're the first person that I've seen doing anything that resembles modern music.


I'm a DJ myself and I'm getting into music production. I did try a demo of RC a couple of months ago but if I'm honest I felt like I was back at school doing extra homework lol. It's very difficult to use, especially after I used captain chords for a while. I thought the fact that RC was more expensive than the others, it would be easier and give me better results quickly, especially considering it's called rapid composer. The only reason I stopped using captain chords is because I don't like the fact that I have to connect to the internet, as most of the time where I live the connection is not great. Also I found the rhythms very generic.


I saw a video last week on a quite well-known YouTube channel of who just does reviews on software, and even he said it was very complex to use. All he was demonstrating was doing chord progressions which you can pretty much do with scaler.


Originally, I was going to buy RC as I like the fact it works without internet connection, but then I discovered in Ableton you can only open one instance which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. Especially because I would definitely be using the idea tool the most.



So, I'm thinking Midi mutator might be a good solution but from seeing your video it looks like you're not getting great results either, but I really like the idea that you've got about adding rests in between notes - That's something I normally do when I buy a new midi pack. (Very tedious doing it manually though)



I would love it if you could do some videos on making modern music if that's even possible with RC. I usually make R&B drum and bass. Sometime house.
In your opinion, seeing as I'm new to music production, would you recommend RC or would you say it's too difficult to use as a newbie? Are there any other suggestions you would recommend?

Rapid Composer 4.4.3 is still crashing Cubase. If I have an instance of RC in a project and nothing else, completely empty, and I close the Project to start another, Cubase crashes. If I Disable RC, (put it to sleep, when trying to setup a template with RC), it crashes Cubase.

Is this on Windows or on macOS? Which version of Cubase Pro?
Will you describe the steps to reproduce this?

I did the following after downloading and installing RC v4.4.3 on Windows:
- opened Cubase Pro 12
- create new project (Create Empty)
- right-click over the tracks area and "Add Instrument Track"
- select Synth/RapidComposer (the VST3 plug-in, but I tried the VST2 plug-in too)
- Add Track
- open the RC editor window (I also tried not opening it)
- close project (No to "Do you want to save...")
- click on New Project...
Result: no crashes

Please reinstall RC v4.4.3 so that you use the same binary as I did in this test.
I have a v4.5 beta version with a new UI engine in the plug-ins (the same as used in the standalone version). You can try that if that works better.

-I basically did the same as you above except:
-So i figured out that the crash is happening because I was using the start RC in separate window feature.
-In Cubase when using RC in a separate window, even disabling the RC track will crash Cubase.
-I also tested on Studio One and same behavior, crash on exit, and crash just Disabling track.
-When using RC normally, no crashes including Disabling.

Amazing observation, InLight-Tone!

This old setting was already removed from the latest update, because the plug-in UI should work well in the host window.
It was provided as a workaround if there was something wrong with the UI, and was disabled by default.

Appreciate your message, I will do my best to come up with a video addressing your questions and hopefully make you see the pros and some of the disadvantages with RC. I will say the developer is a one-man band and he does do his best to implement requests.

When using the Vsti (v4.5b8) in Reaper:
1 Reaper track with piano vsti
1 RC track routed to piano vsti track

Add 4 bars of chord generator to RC (default chords)
Plays back as expected.

Drag midi from RC to Reaper piano track using ctrl+Drag RC track name > Result = 15 bars of syncopated arpeggiator with 1 chord at the end.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
