This step prompted the transition to another daw, the principle of receiving updates has been destroyed, I have been buying since 2015, now I will not.

"Fraud" is another word I might use. I know that's harsh and it's a gray area, but I suspect a lot of us would not have purchased upgrade plans if we knew this was the business model. This is not, I think, what was advertised.

I am also suprised by this move. They are changing their pricing strategy with this offer in my honest oppinion massive. A lot of questions are rising. Will this addons included in version 5? I really love Bitwig since the first day I used it. This is the first time I think about the possibility that bitwig is not COMPLETE pretty cool and transparent. Maybe it is a good moment to communicate with the customer about what comes next with the upgrade plans...

Anybody else annoyed by this? When I purchased my upgrade license, I was told the following:
12 Months of Free Upgrades

Future-proof: All Bitwig Studio updates in the following 12 months are FREE.
It feels like Bitwig just got a lot more expensive.
I see the same. I wanted to continue upgrading, but seeing this change of direction, I wonder if I'll continue with the yearly subscription.

Edit. I've been using bitwig since 1.0

Judging from the comments here and elsewhere I wonder a couple of things. Firstly, why the need for more revenue? Are they In financial difficulty? And second, this could backfire and they actually lose subscribers and more revenue... Seems like a strange play.

This has annoyed me also, what the F is the subscription for? Just bugs and minor tweaks from here on in?

However if they opened it up for 3rd parties to make stuff for it, that wouldn't be so bad, but not from them (they would probably register another company so they could make them and not get caught), however maybe someone would finally make an MSEG modulator that has been left out for so long...

Dodgy, very dodgy...

My current subscription renewal may be the last one I buy.

Yep, I am pretty certain this is breaking the consumer laws here where I live. And I would be pretty surprised if the EU consumer laws will not see this as a breach.

The problem is now , There will be a number of users upgrading and paying for this extra ..so when BS5 comes out AND or IF the spectral pack will eventually be inc. = they'll be pis..ed off badly ... what impact that will have :x
.. disappointing move from BS guys
... Don't buy - is the answer for some time to come ..

especially if it hasn't been developed by some new developer or a third-party one so causes even more delay in the standard upgrade plan ... I would say it's a double-breaking promise

What the actual F?! This is a bad move from Bitwig. Not cool charging for features on top of the subscription we pay. Not cool.

Are they In financial difficulty?
Baltic pipe 1 and 2 been sabotaged, gas prices go up, inflation goes up, wages go up, bitwig price goes up.

This will be hot topic, but with ranting and complaining.

So loyal customery got now downgraded to "Cubasis" like thing?
Disappointing is a nice word for how that feels...
When you look for similar plugins, there's Melda for instance which had "multiband" plugs which offer loudness bands, mid side, and a variety of other "band" interpretations...

Does anybody know whether it is possible to get a refund for a unused upgrade plan? Bought one and kept in unused ... in hope that 4.4 will add useful features for me. Now with the downgrade, I don't know what ever will make the way in the basic version.

Bitwig never has been my primary DAW, but back in my mind there has always been that voice being convinced that the way Bitwig is developing, one day I will make it my primary DAW, with one hunderte percent certainty. I always got giddy when emails from Bitwig dropped, hoping it would be an announcement for a new version, and what cool new ideas there might be to tinker with.

This morning, reading this announcement was just a very disillusioned „what the f…?!“. This move is really concerning to say the least, and until there is some statement from Bitwig of what’s to come in terms of features / devices in expansions vs. upgrade plan, I will hold off from extending my upgrade plan for now.

Steinberg guys are smart imo - they email surveys from time to time asking for users opinions new future suggestions etc.

This one is a surprising move.. upsetting a lot of Us...
