[Fixed in 4.4] Weird bug: latest "Spectral Suite" update not included in upgrade plan

I have certainly seen plenty of rage aimed at Bitwig over the years for various features they haven't included or the annual plan concept itself. For what it's worth, I've never had an issue with any of it and have happily and steadily upgraded. But, this has certainly gotten to me. And it seems to have gotten under the skin of many more people than any of those other issues. So, if I'm any indication, I think Bitwig dismissing this as just "normal social media rage behavior" would be a mistake. It's definitely differentfoosnark wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 2:25 pm also think part of the burden falls on the community to be a little less eager to explode with rage at everything.

I agree. This isn't the usual "where's my MSEG/ARA, Bitwig are greedy, ineffective charlatans" affair. When they have upset the likes of pdxindy and other long time BWS supporters, you know a line has been crossed.Phil B wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 3:18 pmI have certainly seen plenty of rage aimed at Bitwig over the years for various features they haven't included or the annual plan concept itself. You sure are speaking enough about not being allowed to speak about it.

I’m a Bitwig Certified Trainer, so I received a Spectral Suite NFR as did all Certified Trainers. We didn't receive the notification until hours after the release. This could have been handled so much better.
As stated before, I love Bitwig, but this change to paid add-ons is a mess.
Bitwig really needs to step up and find a way to make this right for customers. Unless I completely missed it, there was no advance notice to this change in the Upgrade Plan (subscription model) about paid add-ons coming one day.
This is about setting expectations, and trust. Trust is very difficult to regain.

how long will it be before Bitwig introduce a second tier for the Plan?
Bitwig Standard, Bitwig Pro ( the later including all 'add-ons')
I really like Bitwig from the beginning, but never liked their move to the 'maintenance plans'.
(and it never brought the benefits they said it would of stepping outside the 'major release cycle' model)
but at least it was an 'all-in' pricing.
I think these add-ons are a concern on about how dev is funded, and a way to generate more revenue? more tiers, where you can unlock features by subscribing at a higher tier.
also what does it say about development priorities?
they already have your money from the yearly plan...
so if they need to make some more cash, then divert dev resources to an 'add-on', which can be separately charged for.
or perhaps create more add-ons, so that they can justify the creation of the new 'pro tier'
of course, perhaps its an economic requirement, times are hard, cost of living rising, perhaps Bitwig need to generate more revenue to survive... and they thought a price hike on the yearly plan, would not generate the revenue required.
(or might not have been quick enough, since you cannot 'force' people to renew?!)
but it just doesn't feel good...

to be clear here
=
they cant change anything here
if they give it to free for all , people in the future will act the same way to get all for free
the only thing they can do is lower the price by half for loyal customers or so

I bought Ableton Live Suite upgrade from 10 to 11 and they gave me the new devices. If they would just give me bug fixes and small updates, I would not be happy. If Bitwig asks money for upgrade plan, upgrade plan should cover the upgrades (new devices, bug fixes, updates etc.).
Simple.
Simple.

The unique capabilities of these addons is the kind of functionality that sold me on Bitwig to begin with. It certainly wasn't because it had the best core DAW features. To me, something like these spectral plugins is Bitwigs main selling point so charging extra feels like I'm getting double billed.

Thanks for this tip. Jut got Spec Ops and Dent 2 for very little money using today's voucher from PA (which they have been cranking out a lot of recently). Spec Ops should cover many of the use cases I would have had for the new Bitwig add-on. I can now sit back and wait how this whole new direction of Bitwig develops.AcrossTheSky wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:32 am ... just dig Unfiltered Triad & SpecOps ...save the $$$... for when it'll hit 9.99$ to spice up the BS rack..

I wouldn't call it dishonest... rather unethical. Because they have not upheld existing agreements.foosnark wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 3:14 pm The main thing I don't agree with in this thread is that this move was dishonest or greedy, or that the company as a whole is dishonest or greedy. (But then, I'm a software developer and I also appreciate getting paychecks. If I didn't, I wouldn't be making software.)

For starters, they'll need a lot more than one set of utility splitter devices to exclude!!thetechnobear wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 3:23 pm how long will it be before Bitwig introduce a second tier for the Plan?
Bitwig Standard, Bitwig Pro ( the later including all 'add-ons')
Ableton Suite, for example, gets you 11 more instruments over Standard, 60 GBs more sample content and 23 more audio effects. And all of those add-ons are clearly disclosed as not included in the Standard version when you buy it. Reason+ gets you 13 more instruments and 9 other devices (at least ... I counted manually!)

Same here... I have happily upgraded every year. I wouldn't even mind this if they did it in a different way. Make a new update tier that includes Add-ons and inform users with currently active plans that they receive Spectral Suite but that once their current plan expires, they will no longer receive Add-ons unless they purchase the new tierPhil B wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 3:18 pmI have certainly seen plenty of rage aimed at Bitwig over the years for various features they haven't included or the annual plan concept itself. That would be an ethical approach to doing it.
What they have done here just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
