The more I think about it (which I’m clearly doing too much of), these add-ons are the types of innovative utility tools that led me to bitwig in the first place. Orchestral tools … yeah sure make those add-ons. But if this type of thing is an add-on and all I get with annual plans are features to catch up with Ableton, I can just use Ableton!

I've only been on the Bitwig train since June and I only bought the 16 track version to see if I gel with the workflow but the "update/upgrade" plan has turned me off.
This "update" that brought nothing but the "privilege" of giving them more money was the final straw. I don't mind paying for upgrades but paying for nothing doesn't sit well with me.
I don't have much invested in Bitwig and I've been using FL Studio since version 3 (and enjoying its lifetime free updates) so I can simply carry on using it.
Bitwig will get no more money from me until they get a better business plan. They've got it backwards. A business creates a product and then I decide if I want to buy that product. They don't get to take my money and then decide what they will (or won't) provide to me in exchange.
Shame as I was really starting to like Bitwig as a DAW but at this point Bitwig as a company can KMA.

I really feel with the actual developers and also with the preset designers. They put a lot of effort into these new devices and after months of work they finally released them to the world. This is a very emotional moment for every developer. You get the first reactions from your users, hear the praises and a bit of criticism and face palm yourself when the first inevitable release day bug reports arrive. Really exciting times.
But not this time. Thanks to the brilliant move of the business department. As a Bitwig employee I would feel really sad right now.

I don't even own Bitwig, so really not that much skin in the game, but could you guys consider they might be feeling some financial pressure (like literally everyone) and want to make sure they can continue developing this daw you all love? It's not like your Bitwigs are obsolete with this addon...

If 5.0 is boom-and-blooming UX-/convenience-/composer-side, like really shifting gears, I'd let this slide. Maybe it's time to move focus away from devices to the actual process of composition. Otherwise – bollocks. Just give a Bitwig chain + plugin wrapper with morphing and be gone, guys.
Brzzzzzzt.

Just to have it said: I WILL NOT MOVE AWAY FROM BITWIG
It is the best DAW for me. period.
But I am still really disappointment today.

The problem is that they don't tell us anything. This may well be the case but we have no idea. They are acting like it's just a regular part of their monetization scheme from now on and will help keep the cost of the "main" DAW down. I would happily buy a one-time add on like this if it would help them to continue to develop the DAW.catamorphism wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 9:11 pm I don't even own Bitwig, so really not that much skin in the game, but could you guys consider they might be feeling some financial pressure (like literally everyone) and want to make sure they can continue developing this daw you all love? Err... no. Promised a new version, for free to some owners, then people are still waiting 10 years later. No, that is not how to do it.krazzmann wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 8:24 pmAgreedThereatGrumbleMorn wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 8:12 pm viewtopic.php?t=582019

I'm sure there is a reason that these particular plug ins have come separately. I also don't think it's been communicated well.
I've emailed Bitwig, quite politely. I'm sure they will reflect on this approach.
I believe!

Wow. People get angry quickly.
Better off politely emailing Bitwig support, and telling them how much you like Bitwig and how you think this add on thing could have been handled better.
Try and make someones day, and not ruin their week, eh?
