I’m still on the upgrade plan from my initial purchase but my assumption was that these annual upgrade plans existed to help them continue development. If that’s not enough money to keep them afloat, then I feel like maybe they’re not going to last and I should probably just switch to something else now before I get too invested.catamorphism wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 9:11 pm I don't even own Bitwig, so really not that much skin in the game, but could you guys consider they might be feeling some financial pressure (like literally everyone) and want to make sure they can continue developing this daw you all love? It's not like your Bitwigs are obsolete with this addon...

Unfortunately I think that Bitwig know their market well and realise that there is no way anyone used to this DAW could stand to return to the archaic workflow and glacial update regime from Ableton. Where we might protest and withdraw our goodwill, chances are as the dust settles most Bitwiggers will end up coughing up the extra cash.

Even if they never updated again, I think it's unlikely I'd switch away from Bitwig.picklenerd wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:00 pmI’m still on the upgrade plan from my initial purchase but my assumption was that these annual upgrade plans existed to help them continue development. Such an amazing tool to work with.

This is like the 3rd time they've changed their model, I can't see how anyone is really surprised. I would be surprised if it doesn't change again. They want a regular sub, but they are too scared to admit it, for now anyway.
e.g. Sub, Fixed Pricing, Addons...

No need to attribute malice to what seems just a bit of a poor decision making and communication.tactile_coast wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:02 pm Unfortunately I think that Bitwig know their market well and realise that there is no way anyone used to this DAW could stand to return to the archaic workflow and glacial update regime from Ableton. The DAW choice isn’t just between Live and Bitwig but don’t see a lot of people walking away from Bitwig just because of this, I can see a lot of good will and trust being lost and a lot of people not upgrading as often.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

With this move towards add-ons, I bet updates to the DAW becomes fewer and further between.tactile_coast wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:02 pm Unfortunately I think that Bitwig know their market well and realise that there is no way anyone used to this DAW could stand to return to the archaic workflow and glacial update regime from Ableton. This is so disappointing, for all the reasons mentioned already.
I'll be letting my licence run down and then considering my options. I just can't get onboard with this business model. You have no wonder which future features will be included in updates and which will be paid add-ons. I'd bet that the better features no longer make it into the updates. Very sad day.

Once they promised to do something special for people with the 1.0 batch, still hoping this will happen some day.
Could be a good chance now.

I still have an unused renewal plan and I will most likely use it when 4.4 arrives. I really like the software and I'll use it as long as I can. But I'm not going to throw more money at Bitwig in the foreseeable future because I don't want to support the new business model. At the moment I'm not even sure that there is still a company left to buy from when this plan expires.
There are also no rewards for loyal customers. The next plan will be my 5th renewal (IIRC). In this long time period I've never received a loyalty bonus of any kind. Don't get me wrong. I didn't expect anything in that direction but I know that this would have changed my view on the company a lot. As an example: My landlord just sent me a small anniversary gift with a nice hand written letter just because I've lived in his apartment for ten years. This was unexpected but this is why I love to live here. Small things go a long way.
So I don't see why anyone should donate money to a profit oriented company when this is just a one sided social relationship.
I've looked at Bitwig's shop and I've found no indication for that they offer discounted licenses for unemployed or in general for people with low income. Sure, I can help them now by buying something from them without condition but what will they do when I need help at some point? Will I get a discounted plan when I've lost my job or when I'm getting sick? I doubt it.Greenstorm33 wrote: Wed Oct 05, 2022 9:28 pm The problem is that they don't tell us anything. This may well be the case but we have no idea. They are acting like it's just a regular part of their monetization scheme from now on and will help keep the cost of the "main" DAW down. I would happily buy a one-time add on like this if it would help them to continue to develop the DAW.

I've gotten two U-He plugins from them and several other things. I like their work and I'd prefer to have them offer a paid addon like this than to see the company go under, if that is indeed the situation.

I think that's what is really upsetting people. Bitwig has moved the goal posts and there's nothing stopping them from doing it again....and again.
If Bitwig is that close to going under then everybody better have a Plan B because the global economy is only going to get worse and by some estimates much worse.

Yeah they literally changed the verbiage on the upgrade plan description. IMO if they want to change it they should honor the existing description for those of us who bought a plan before the change.
