[Fixed in 4.4] Weird bug: latest "Spectral Suite" update not included in upgrade plan

In my opinion, Bitwig made a terrible decision. If they want to charge users more money, they should have wrapped the devices as VST/AU/CLAP plugins and sell them to non-Bitwig users. The annual renewal was already a controversial move. But selling add-ons to people with valid upgrade plans is just unacceptable.

I hope the guys from Bitwig are reading this:
I downloaded a demo project from this site https://www.bitwig.com/spectral-suite/ which shows the "possibilities" of this Suite. WTF ??? do you want money for it ??? this suite is useless even for free, and the sound of these effects is really flat. There are many more better-sounding plug-ins with a better GUI on the market today. Bitwig guys: Stop making useless extra packs for bitwig, make one fully working version with no graphical bugs and others that I won't need to update. I have never used Grid or any bitwig instruments, presets or effects, I have many more interesting plugins and I only need bitwig to manage third party plugins without any bugs. Please finally do a polished one version.

Perhaps a last-ditch money grab prior to announcing a Francisco Partners sell-out ala iZotope?

We've already paid for them, that's why people are angry.zfigz wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 2:56 ammaybe this is a terrible / greedy idea on my part, i think they ought to give this out as a freebie to current owners of bitwig

I helped convert a friend recently to Bitwig, and now I feel like a schmuck. He runs a recording studio, he started with Pro Tools, and realized they nickel and dime you for everything, then there's the whole subscription. He's less than a couple months in with Bitwig and it's got to be triggering PTSD. His first couple months on an update plan and he realizes it now doesn't cover everything...
I can't stress how stupid this move is for Bitwig.
We'll see, but I'm already betting they flub the response to the uproar, maybe they don't? Ableton famously messed up the introduction of Max4Live into Live, the integration made Live and unstable mess for about a years, and they publicly admitted their mistake. It's also one of the reasons Bitwig exists in the first place.

I hate saying it, but I think you're right. Bitwig just went from innovative indie DAW developers to the perception of being in lines with the worst of the DAW and plug in manufactures in terms of broken promises and bad PR.musikarldererste wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 1:57 am they will do nothing
its over , look around many switch ,
and this move from bitwig was just the beginning
and when they introduce their bigger updateplan tier its complety over

Developing anything that has to work inside modulation system and with everything inside bitwig are not separate plugins. They are native things that might cause bugs. It's not uncommon to see a new device and something went broken in the making. It takes long time to find all the bugs and even longer to fix them all. Maybe the resent updates gave eveyone some new bugs from something they didn't even get. So there is that.

Option 5 - "wE hAve liSTeNeD!" and now introducing two upgrade plans instead of one - suite and regular and we're not Avidskiltrip wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 2:02 am The fact that the paid update remains front and center on their website tells me they have no plan to "fix" anything they've done. This can only go one of these directions...
1.) sorry 'bout this one folks. our bad. it won't happen again. Everything is included from here on out. (then throw in a $29 sale in the future to allow everyone to get up to snuff but not piss off people that paid the $79).
2.) yup, we screwed this one up. refunds for everyone that paid for it, and now it's free, and so is everything else. we're still cool right?
3.) corporate talking points, rising costs, R&D, blah blah blah. take it and like it. At least we're not Avid.
4.) more thoughtful explanation, R&D, blah blah blah. take it and like it. At least we're not Avid.
But I doubt they will do anything at all

Annoyingly they ran a campaign just two weeks ago to make people renew their license.
The campaign ends, the business model changes. Rather abruptly.
That's disingenuous.

Exactly. plus its really an addon. Let them do what they want buy it or not. its up to you. the last 3 updates were sick af. I think there will be more if we support it either way.BoogerSnotOrchestra wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 5:36 am Inflation... Energy costs...

So they released a statement, and it's as brain dead as I feared it might be. I think I'm done with them.
A money grubbing sh*t move doesn't cover how I feel about this.

Sure, but the sensible thing to do if they had absolutely no choice other than to increase profits to remain viable would have been to just raise the prices of updates subs and license fees.BoogerSnotOrchestra wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 5:36 am Inflation... Energy costs...

This is so vague. At first you buy "future proof upgrade plan" and now all of a sudden there are "core features" and "highly specialized features". This is quite sad to be frank. It's the opposite of future proof, it's not proof at all, it's leaky, weird and broken. What are highly special features in the future?Bitwig wrote:Core features of Bitwig Studio will continuously be developed as part of the 12-month upgrade plan. Highly specialized features, like devices or additional content...
