It's barely an "add-on". I pay for a plan in order to get exactly things like this.
That's the very point.

This approach is just not compatible with a subscription model. Go back to a point release then.

Ooo another KVR drama from KVR experts and product specialists.

You paid for Bitwig updates and you are getting Bitwig application updates. You did not bitwig extensions and their updates.

You are not entitled to get anything like that for free and Bitwig staff needs to be paid for add-ons. Go suck your mom's tit tit.

What a world we live in. Where a bunch of psychopaths demand everything for free always.

Hahahaha suck your mom's tit bunch of whiners and losers.

I just purchased this and enjoy it. If you don't have 80 something to support your favorite DAW company at least once a year then get a life!!!!!

If you upgrade Arturia V-collection or Ableton Live Suite, do you get the added devices (new instruments etc.) or core features? We all know the answer. Maybe Bitwig should learn from other companies.

You don't have a clue about what you're talking about. Bitwig has so far added in every plug in, every improvement in the Update Plan, that's in fact what the update plan covered. This is a new change after how many years? After a sale on said update plan. Bitwig is also not arguably one of the most expensive DAWs with the least features. The only one that comes close is Pro Tools, and not a soul loves the price of Pro Tools, but some make serious money off of Pro Tools. Let's be honest here maybe 20 people make serious money off of Bitwig.

This is a joke, and they deserve every last bit of bile they receive about it.

Seeing a lot of people here say that this is mainly a “communication issue”, but honestly i think thats such a small part of the picture.

The fact is that before today users paid to receive a complete year of updates, and now some of those updates are being paywalled. No lengthy blog post is going to justify that.

The fact that this was done without any communication whatsoever is apalling, dont get me wrong. But really, they could have warned us about this 6 months ago and it would still be a completely unscrupulous business tactic so long as it affected any currently active subscriptions.

I think the only way this could have been conscionable would be be for them to have declared that this change would only affect future license renewal purchases. Customers with currently active subscriptions, or those who are holding on to renewal codes they bought previously, should absolutely be entitled to *all* updates for a year following activation. That is what they were sold and that is what they should receive.

But then, even if they had gone about this in the conscionable way (and with ample communication) there would still be serious issues. We’d still be faced with the question of whether the asking price for such a neutered license renewal could be considered reasonable or not.

In the past, a set of container utility devices such as this one would have been the perfect headlining feature for a point update. To justify paywalling it, bitwig decided practically on a whim that this is actually a “specialized device” with niche use. So from the outside it seems like they effectively cannibalized what would have been a perfectly solid point update in order to squeeze more profits out of us.

It doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in the value proposition of the license renewal going forward. If bitwig is going to start omitting certain things from the standard license renewal at their discretion then we absolutely need greater transparency about exactly what updates we can expect for the year. We need a developer roadmap that lists which features will be included in the renewal and which will be premium.

Frankly, as someone who has been waiting on features like the fully open modular programming environment since version 1.0, a greater degree of transparency on development priorities/plans is long overdue in my opinion.

Sure, but the sensible thing to do if they had absolutely no choice other than to increase profits to remain viable would have been to just raise the prices of updates subs and license fees.
They probably lose customers that way. Inflation and energy costs aren't just hitting producers, but consumers as well.

If they divide it up a bit, they let people decide which components they want to add. Maybe people don't want this Spectral Suite. Why make them pay for it?

I get it though, it kind of goes against their previous upgrade model, and makes people wonder just what they are paying for. Tough decisions the developers have to make. Maybe this one backfires. I personally like the options, and if they can deliver the goods in the "normal" upgrades, then I don't have a problem with it.
Yo Leroy!

so time is over for them
the want more money , but on the long run like other company the will lost a lot of money
because loyal customers avoid this marketing bullshit like adobe

so i dont accept it
its 100% wrong to do this

for now i must learn a new daw because of that

I received an update notification in Bitwig today for version 4.3.9. When I installed it, and then opened it, all of a sudden a nag screen came on saying to update the Extended Collection package. When I went to try and do this, it failed because I haven't bought the Spectral Suite. I closed the program, re-opened it, and then the same nag screen came back and the Extended Collection package is greyed out. So I tried to revert back to Bitwig 4.3.8, and now there is always going to be the persistent "Update to Bitwig 4.3.9" message, which I'll have to click EACH AND EVERY TIME I OPEN BITWIG. Absolutely awful, and completely disappointed. I'm done paying for a yearly subscription for this kind of nonsense.

Are all of you who are complaining now the same people who are complaining at every other Update tht BWS is releasing "Toys" or "Stuff that nobody really needs" with our hard earned and yearlly spent Money for the Update Plan?
It seems, from now on there are lucky Days ahead of you cause the way they doing it now BWS can spent the income from the Yearly payments fr "a better Pianoroll like FL Studio" or "a propper MSEG" or other "Essential" Stuff that every other DAW has as well so that BWS become a standart DAW like every other AW on the market.
Creative Stuff you now have to buy seperatly.

So why complayning as this is exactly what you always wantet, so be happy with it, your wishes got granted (regarding the Posts you can see here on nearly every Post for an BWS Update)

...this was sarcastic.....

I second that. If the quality and speed of updates remains the same then I don’t mind the add-ons or even the introduction of a premium update plan that includes all add-ons. But if the update quality would degrade, I would feel cheated, too. Probably all would have been more clear if they would have published the spectral suite as VST/AU/CLAP plugins. If they need a new revenue stream then why not?

It has been pointed out by several people even before this release that the quality of updates had fallen significantly- 9 or so bug fix updates since 4.3, most just fixing the bugs introduced by the last bug fix...these ting frequent releases requiring an uninstall and reinstall just to fix the bug they added by mistake when fixing the last bug...it's getting worse not better and that is self-evident from the release notes.

Live released 11.2 when it was ready (after almost 8 months of testing on the beta forum codebase!) they may not seem to change as often, but they put stability first on a release.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!
