Throw the baby out with the bath water.

Cut off your nose to spite your face.

Or... don't do it and enjoy an excellent DAW to work with.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitwig/comment ... &context=3

If you go to web archive https://web.archive.org/web/20220923055 ... g.com/buy/ at the bottom of the page we have:
"12 Months of Free Upgrades
Future-proof: All software updates in the following 12 months are FREE."

Now when you go to https://www.bitwig.com/buy/ you have:
"12 Months of Free Upgrades
Future-proof: All Bitwig Studio updates in the following 12 months are FREE."

I’m not going to be one of the Enablers by just turning the other cheek.

That’s as dirty as it gets.

Any changes of policy MUST be submitted to the users before implementation.

I’m not a lawyer (good for them :hihi:) but I’m sure that’s far from being “clean”.

We can just say “it’s not a big deal or a dealbreaker”, but enabling such a practice it’s guaranteed to embolden them for a future next move.

But has anyone suggested that Bitwig have said anything about a "Suite" version, before/other than musikarldererste? Or have people taken what they said and run with it, believing them to be telling the truth? Because there seem to be several instances now where they are, to be kind, having problems with how they are saying things, if English is not their native language. To be less kind they might be speaking utter invented garbage, with no basis in truth, or knowledge or communication from Bitwighthat they innitially claimed.

edit..

got a message from them

they will introduce another upgrade plan

so in the future you can choose between to upgrade price -plans
the bigger ones = will have all addons included
the little ones = just daw workstation features but without future addons

no prices mentioned but it makes sense
look like Reason addon shop to me
This is the first mention I can find anyone saying Bitwig themselves have stated two differnt plans, that we have now started calling the higher tier "Suite".

Think we need to be cautious what we are believing.

Would be better if they were cross platform VSTs with Better Bitwig Integration to be sold separately.

I think the issues is that these are Bitwig only devices - and really that's integrated and so part of the Bitwig Studio package. I'm not sure it's much different to the Grid.

Had they communicated something in advance, "we'll be working with partners to build integrated devices", and changed the terms of new Upgrade Plans an honored existing ones - I think it would not be a problem.

But boy, do some people get angry and almost abusive towards Bitwig very quickly. Chill The F Out!

This person has been trolling in this thread all the time and claiming to be a trainee in Gearnews (which was denied by Gearnews themselves).

I advise not to listen to any word that they say.

I absolutly agree, but there has been talk within the last few pages about there being a standard version that is just the DAW, and a Suite vesion with the new/extra devices. So two seperate paid tiers of Bitwig.
That's where I'm saying that at best they may have been mistaken in what they were saying.....but it looks more like it's utter invented nosnese to troll the thread.

So we almost need to step back and actually unpick their "information" from the discussion, as it seem very unreliable. So we need to stop thinking what they've said is true, and that we're waiting for an anouncment from Bitwig, that there's going to be different tiers.

Who knows what Bitwig might announce, but I think if anyone does know, it's not musikarldererste.

People don't like being lied to, if they want to respond with a refund let them have at it. Read the room, it's no time for fanboying and getting behind Bitwig right now. They royally f'd up here, the majority or die hard wiggers here can even appreciate that. The DAW is great, changing the terms of the upgrade plan most certainly is not and if people have their 14 days grace, they ought to make use of it, get their money back and wait to see if Bitwig make good be delivering a solid update and ideally an apology or at least some statement acknowledging the community's response.

I am a bit surprised no word from BW today considering this has turned into such a huge backlash. I'm no marketing expert but if this is status quo, at minimum explain that in human way; live stream, engage more on social media, etc, don't just drop a FAQ write up and call it a day. They could also couple that with a massive discount for existing plan holders, more of gesture, an apology for being unclear on what our existing upgrade plans include and surprising us with this business model. Call it a crossgrade pricing or something, that is what Aurturia, Izotope, etc does all the time. After they can charge whatever for add-ins.

No doubt this is the start of more optional extras which will ultimately develop into a fragmented product offering. Logic's fixed cost and free updates seems very tempting tbh... I'll wait and see what (and when) 4.4 brings... but in my opinion, this feels like a wrong move from Bitwig.

I wrote this in the other thread.....

Look, it's really very simple. Add Ons should be separate products and separate installs. They should not be rolled in to a point update like 4.3.9 that people are already paying for with their yearly update plans.

You decide if the new plugins are something you want, you purchase, and you get the download content.

Those of us who have no interest in the new plugins could simply ignore them instead of being nagged about updating to 4.3.9 every time we load up Bitwig.

This would have avoided a lot of the ill will that this situation has created. This whole thing was a very amateur move by Bitwig.
