That might be true, but the u-he offer isn't necessarily an indication of it, they had a similar offer last year at about the same time.pizzatime wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:53 pm I think they must be struggling for cash, that's why there was that uhe offer a few weeks ago.. seems so unlike how bitwig do things the paid add ons, it all seems really rushed.

They would be acquired or go open source which might be better than this awful path we are on.BazJacuzzi wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:01 pm It's still the best DAW (at least for me). Yeah, I'm sad about it, but I'd be a hell of a lot sadder if Bitwig folded. Time for me to start seeing some perspective here.

Of course there were some idiots but the discussion on discord had actually a very positive direction for the most part. Many people told him to step back because he is so heavily involved in the community and so heavily involved with Bitwig. This was done to protect Polarity because there was no way he could have survived the discussion without being covered in poo. And so he stepped back and took a break. After the dust settled he happily discussed the actual spectrum devices with some users and all are good friends again.navin.neu wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:14 pmI cant speak to whatever happened on Discord as I'm not there...

I see people now started writing this on some forums as ‘$pectral $uite’ now…this thing will have its own T-shirt soon…!
I’m amazed Bitwig didn’t make an official comment today…they can’t be oblivious to this, there were half a dozen new criticism focus YT videos today from people who normally support Bitwig…

Sounds like that ranks pretty pretty low on the list of "Most Fascist Discord Servers" thenBenutzername wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:28 pmOf course there were some idiots but the discussion on discord had actually a very positive direction for the most part. No, I don’t tell anyone to shut up. Express you opinions but calling someone names is not a debate.Held wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:20 pmYou are trying to suppress free speech right now. Yes, he has a different take on it but that’s not a reason to start a “witch hunt”. He was told to better keep his mouth shut not to risk his reputation and YT revenue. Sorry, but this is close to fascism. Regardless of how pissed we are, we shouldn’t suppress free speech.

It's a poor choice rather than anything evil, I'm sure.chrisstiles wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 4:58 pmThe fact that they felt the need to quietly change the wording on their website before advertising the new plugins tells you all you need to know._leras wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 4:56 pm I do think they have communicated poorly, and a point update with paid plug ins - I can see why that doesn't come across well.

But it's free speech. That's why most countries apply limits to free speech.krazzmann wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 8:42 pmNo, I don’t tell anyone to shut up. Polarity should be able to say what he thinks about Bitwig without people being abusive.

You can see I don't post around here much, if at all...But, this situation has rung a couple of alarm bells for me, so....
This new pricing scheme rings very close to what religious cults do. You pay for induction, inner peace is right around the corner. But, if you want to get to the next level you can get there, for a little more cash. Want to learn how to radiate heat from your heart? You'll need a new mantra, that'll cost you.
This whole business of "if you don't want the upgrade, you don't need to" is BS. Every daw is like that, Bitwig is not special in this regard. Bitwig positioned itself in a certain manner, and this Add-On situation has pushed that facade over - money is money. Which brings me to....
Ask why they are charging for this add-on....Sure, breaking even does not pay the bills, but still why do this? I think they were looking at their growth and seeing trouble ahead. Maybe not this year, but maybe two/three years from now. They asked themselves what to do and came up with this. Money must be tight, and this whilst is it looks like greed (and in my mind it is) it is also the first in a series of steps to ensure Bitwig's longevity. Despite Bitwig pretending to be everybody's friend, it's either make more money, or go out of business.
This is what cults do. They get you in, but once they have your initial investment they don't need you anymore. They all eventually find way to get more from existing users/followers. For me, I'm done - not just for this situation, but other reasons as well...oh well

Indeed.zambal wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:46 pm Exactly my feelings too. It was a stupid move by Bitwig and they really should rethink their strategy, but I'm quite shocked by the vindictiveness and mob like aggression of a lot of the reactions on here, reddit, YT, etc.
Who knew there were so many Bitwig users with such anger management issues.

Absolutely this. They're just a bunch of guys and gals who wanted to make great music software.Stan Navi wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:16 pm Bitwig is great company. And for me it is better to support them than see if they will be bought by Gibson, Fender, PRS...etc...and then abandoned.
I love what the do.
I find it so disappointing to see so many people lose the plot from what is really just a misstep in communication.
