That's a silly way of looking at it because when you buy Bitwig you are paying $399. Is every update after that initial $399 free? I don't think so. You get a years worth of updates only. You already have access to all the update of the previous year. If you renew its with the expectation that you are paying for future updates. What you wrote here only makes sense if you skipped a year or two, but if you've been paying since you bought the initial package every yearly activation is paying for future updates you are not paying for the previous years update, you already paid for those.don_looney wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 8:25 amIf you see it the other way you get everything which is already out by the date you activate it and on top of that you get some updates for free in the next 12 month. What do I really get for the €170 yearly renewal?
If I buy Cubase X I get exactly that, nothing more.

if you need an addon you have to support BWS for a year, because the addons depend on the BWS framework, for ex. I have BWS 4.2.5 and can't use spectral stuff ("Requires a Bitwig Studio 4.3 license or above.") without update plan reactivation ... this is my only concernbillcarroll wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:29 pm Ultimately, I believe Bitwig will do the right thing, and they just made a stupid mistake here. Poor communication, not honoring existing agreements and expectations.

They aren't bad, just didn't think this one through well at all.
I still have hope for that. I think the people working at Bitwig are good people, and they will soon do a course correction to resolve this.
using Reason you don't have to update it to the latest version to able to use any REs...they even can be used in ReasonRack so can be used in other DAWs too vs Bitiwg...,

what about "the grid " ?
what about convulation reverb ?
what about chorus+ , flanger+, phaser+
what about delay +
all of that was core features
so your move make no sense

Only you choose if you renew always or leave a gap. You don't have to upgrade at all if the version you are on works for you.apoclypse wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:40 pm You already have access to all the update of the previous year. And I said as much but this whole you pay for the current version and the upgrades are free is crap. It's not what is happening regardless of how Bitwig markets it. You are not getting "free" updates you paid for those updates. The whole paid maintenance thing is not a new licensing model, Pro Tools had something similar, and a lot of other software have that too, you pay the maintenance and it allows you to upgrade to the latest version within that maintenance period. Companies like Techsmith etc have done this for years._leras wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:54 pmOnly you choose if you renew always or leave a gap. I telepathically communicated with my dog and she agrees that this is a bad move and that she would most likely piss on their building (she's a bit small for windows), but that's only because she's a dog and it's what they do. She agrees that pissing on windows is not the behaviour of otherwise well adjusted human beings._leras wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:51 pmPieBerger wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:17 pm Now who's being OTT with "people have got their pitchforks out wanting Bitwig to suffer and burn"

The whole thing feels like a bad joke. It's as if they hired a young business administration graduate straight out of college and gave him all the authority to market products.
It's now 4pm in Berlin, no idea how long the Bitwig team will be working, but I hope there will be a statement before the weekend.

You don't need to pay for the years after your initial buy. That is my point. Buy Bitwig for 400€ enjoy one year of updates. After that, wait until something is introduced what you want and buy the upgrade plan. People are using it like a subscription and it is falsely advertised as one but you never loose the ability to start the last version which was covered by your upgrade plan.apoclypse wrote: Fri Oct 07, 2022 1:40 pmThat's a silly way of looking at it because when you buy Bitwig you are paying $399. I always brought the upgrade plan on sale and waited until a version came out which I wanted to use. My mindset was always I buy a certain version of Bitwig which was available.
Now we have to wait and see how the core/addon parts of Bitwig will get updates.
