“Poorly communicated”…
There was not a single communication about the changes until they were Implemented and also changed the terms without notice.
Nice try. You are not helping them. You are blowing on the fire.
Some people here seem to want them punished and to go out of business.
They're a small company of real people, probably supporting families. It's a gift that they've spent so many years of their lives building amazing tools for us.
I can't believe the lack of perspective of some here.
It's not like they switched overnight to a mandatory subscription service and a stopped us using the software.
Give them a chance man.

I FREAKING LOVE BITWIG !!!
No really - It is absolutely the centrepiece software for my music (hobby) - connects my hardware flawless. IMO better than any other DAW for my usage and on top of that a unique modulation system.
I will happily pay for the Spectral Suite to support your future endeavours.
Yes i am fanboy and you can treat me as such - Maybe be better at communications in the future..

Surely people that want to start their own enterprise to build music software should be applauded by people here.Held wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 7:46 am Here's some evidence for 1): They left their old company and started a direct competitor which is basically an incomplete copy of the original with some additional (admittedly nice) features. That's definitely a dick move.
They had a vision that they thought would be better than Ableton. And I'm grateful that they not only had an idea, but followed it through and have spent years of their lives to build these amazing tools.
People leave a company and try to set up on their own all the time. Why single out Bitwig.

It's the weekend in the UK as well! The shitstorm started Wednesday, they doubled down and covertly changed the words on what's included with the update plan on Thursday night (as in no announcement or newsletter)_leras wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 9:35 amIt's the weekend in Germany.SLiC wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 9:20 am They have had several days to fix it; they haven't even commented on the situation. It is what it is, people will move on eventually, but I suspect there will be quite a few less Bitwig customers and certainly a lot less 'good faith'.
I'm sure they are aware of the situation.
...I don't think they are backtracking; they are digging in (or they wouldn't have changed the web after the users views were known) They think they are right (or this is necessary) and the users are wrong. Who knows, give it enough time that may be the case, as I said before, they did other things that were not popular before and rode it out and, in some cases, they knew best, I just hope they haven't misjudged this one.
I am more concerned that if they really needed the money (necessity not greed) I can't see many people buying the devices, certainly not from the feedback I have seen, and if people hold off from buying update plans they will be in a worse situation.

they just wanted to get some extra money before Putin nukes the world I wouldn't blame them (hope not) Orbán successfully f**ked our currency so I don't worry about any plan now

This video pretty much sums it up for me, interesting that the EULA for 4.3.8 specially 'includes' Add Ins' in writing. Have they actually changed the EULA if you download 4.3.10?

The most important thing in a small start-up business *is* listening to customers.SLiC wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 10:03 am ...I don't think they are backtracking; they are digging in (or they wouldn't have changed the web after the users views were known) They think they are right (or this is necessary) and the users are wrong.
This doesn't mean customers are always right, but listening is important.
I think if they just said we'll add them for free in 4.4 now, and change future upgrade plans it would be the right thing to do.
Saying that, clearly some people here are just never ever happy.

I would also introduce at least some kind of rent-to-own construction for the addons if they come in every 3months for ex. then 20$ per month would be acceptable for me, just to be able to keep the tempo with Bitwig
ofc. I've seen the African user's comment above Polarity's video it wouldn't help them too much
they have chosen Bitwig exactly because of the pay-once-get-everything model

Baphometrix is pissed because Bitwig did not offer an NFR license (like they did for polarity, taches, and dahs glitch). Just goes to show how important the DAW really is or isn’t.
musikarldererste wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:34 am i see that many youtubers like polarity ( like him a lot)
get many dislikes
so Bitwig should know that is not good for content creator
another yoututber called baphometrix (really good tutorials)
will dont use bitwig in the upcoming videos anymore
i think why so many users here are so angry is the fact
that you dont see this coming ,because they make so enjoyable features
so in short =
the grid= this is extra special = why this is not an addon ?
chorus+,flanger+, phaser+ = why is this is not an addon
delay + = here, too not an addon
and spectral is an addon ?
all updates before included creative devices
so it make no sense here
my biggest fear is that you have pay for presets or soundpacks in the future, too

Comments for that video explain why Baphometrix doesn’t understand the EULA. Lay people can’t rely on an intuitive understanding of legalese unfortunately.

Many would say it's far more than 'a poor judgement' hence an unprecedented dismay and upset no-one as ever seen the like of previously._leras wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 9:25 am
Their arrogance or yours? You are hoping your youtuber heroes will join in the mob attack on Bitwig.
It's hardly that Bitwig are a bunch of millionaires trying to turn the screws on their user base.
They made a poor judgement. Hopefully they will rectify this.
On the other hand you are just lowering the tone.
They could halt this immediately by, if not honouring their agreement, at least giving a viable explanation to users that indicated they actually had at least a modicum of regard for them, but they haven't.
I actually don't have any YouTuber 'heroes' but I am aware that some have pretty noticeable audiences and that if they were to speak out they may have some effect.
Calling this a mob attack makes it sound like you feel people have no reason for upset. They disagree.
Bitwig may not be evil billionaires, but they have made a call that if there is an excuse for, it's not doing anyone any favours by not communicating it. They could even have put their existence as a viable company in question, such is the ill feeling.
The longer they ignore users the more likely any outcome will be worse.

Disgruntled Bitwig users would rather see the company crash and burn into oblivion if the number of “I refuse to upgrade” assertions made in the past few days.
And the suite is really good. Shame.

My plan runs out at the end of November, I was going to renew it as I have started using BW more and more.
The issue for me is not that I didn't get these spectral plugins, the issue is I am not sure what the plan is going to offer now.
What is the % split going to be of updates/add-ons? Is the plan just for fixes and new functionality for the core DAW? Are all new plugins going to be add-ons? Will some core functionality of the daw be add-ons?
I have no idea at all.
So the obvious thing to do is not renew and wait and see what happens in the future, this is surely going to hurt the money they make because I guess I'm not alone here.

If you buy spectra add-on outright do you get updates for free to that add-on as long as it is updated ? I'm wondering how that l works with the annual update subscription
If needed an active annual subscription for updates to the add-on ? wouldn't that imply it was part of that subscription in the first place ? Confused to how it will work

Bad communication, that's all!
To be honest, I don't mind to pay extra for such a great product, but be transparent! say what you need and why you need it! I think plenty of people are willing to support! But you gambled with the trust of the community ..which is the heart of Bitwig.
And I think the situation gets worse if Bitwig Management stay on the route to stay quiet! And try to change EULA's and phrasings behind the scene, after the "Add-On" release!
