We don’t know that. The add on could be tied to a minimum version of Bitwig. I asked them and we’ll see what they say.

obviously not!perpetual3 wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 10:52 am Disgruntled Bitwig users would rather see the company crash and burn into oblivion if the number of “I refuse to upgrade” assertions made in the past few days.
but the trust people had in the past to give money to the company in advance to get upgrades in exchange is destroyed, as Bitwig decided not to follow their own insurance to do so, suddenly "from now on". so it seems, as this change is also effecting the contracts of ongoing upgrade plans, which is most of the problem.
so, first of all as an owner of such an ongoing upgrade plan, if one is not that "pissed off" by this and changes daw permanently (as there are many multi-daw users), of course from now on everyone will only upgrade, when there is some real advantage to do so. even if this takes years ...
when the reason to implement something they call add-ons would have been an atempt to increase cashflow, this very decision could lead to an actual decrease of cashflow for the company - so besides all ethical and legal concerns about the way of this business change, also an unwise economial decision ...

If you type 'Bitwig' into YouTube search you will find 7 of the top 12 videos are currently videos criticising Bigwigs business practices. I don't know how much influence these things (or twitter, forums, reddit etc) but if you were a prospective new user looking at the internet for advice you would probably avoid Bitwig.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

If they crash and burn then so be it, they did it to themselves. It shouldn’t have taken much thought to realise this had the potential to be poorly received. They made the decision to implement the changes the way they did. In my case I can’t currently see a scenario in which I give them any more money. It’s incredibly disappointing as I really like a lot about their DAW. But, I just can’t support a business who thinks this is a fair and reasonable way to act. Let’s see if they manage to redeem themselves somehow next week, however given their approach to date I wouldn’t bet on it.

I for one love Bitwig more than I hate their poorly executed strategy shift. But you do you.

Does anybody know if the super special add ons can be transferred?

Good question! I think they have sold so few (based on the post that are actually discussing how good they are and what they do) that the issue has been moot!ralfrobert wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 12:07 pm Does anybody know if the super special add ons can be transferred?

They are really good. Not only for sound design, but for utility work as well. For example, I made a really clean sounding 4 band reverb to which I simply sent a sub mix of the entire track (basically the same as the master) where I could give each band their own space.

I like Bitwig but when they change their business model then I will do the same. Instead of blindly trusting them to give me nice features when I buy a plan I will do what everybody is suggesting here. I will wait until there are enough new features to justify the upgrade and totally ignore the 12 month part.perpetual3 wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 12:02 pm I for one love Bitwig more than I hate their poorly executed strategy shift.
4.3 was the last version of my previous plan so I will now wait a year or so to collect new features that are worth the update price. I already have a plan in the drawer that I can use. This plan will run for another year and then I will wait one more year without upgrades to see what the developers bring to the table. Effectively the next time Bitwig will see some more money from me will be in late 2025 or early 2026. Usually would have bought at least one more plan in this time frame.
So I'm not killing Bitwig. They don't need my help for that.

Look, you can frame it anyway you want. That’s you’re right even if I personally don’t agree with it and don’t join you in it. But you obviously don’t value the DAW the same way I do, and again, that’s fine it’s your right. However, your attitude - I won’t be upgrading anymore until I see features I want - isn’t the attitude I’m talking about. I’m talking about the cacophony of refusals to upgrade period. To switch daws. That’s killing Bitwig.

When companies have every right to change business models then people have every right to switch DAWs. Being altruistic when it comes to profit oriented business entities is usually a very one sided social relationship.

Again, I’m not saying that people don’t have the right. It’s not a question about “rights.” That’s not the issue. It’s also not a question of being altruistic.

I think it's simply a matter of trust. Bitwig have made a move which in many peoples eyes (mine included) have created a trust issue.
The sensible thing for them to do would be to issue an honest & open statement of some kind, humans to humans, and go from there.
If they remain silent I believe they will damage themselves in the long run.
