Thanks! I’m out so can’t scrub it now, but from a quick glance it looks like the same. Frankly them changing the EULA at this point would probably just be a fact against them, either validating this interpretation (if they specifically were to try to scope add-ons out from the free upgrades section) or causing even worse customer revolt (if they tried to squeeze in my crazy hypothetical language)

I renewed my Bitwig plan 3 months ago, and for the first time in years. I wanted to give it a try again and thought the step up from 3.x to 4.x was significant enough for the price.
But I’m done with Bitwig after this. It’s an indication that they are not putting significant resources into refining the product I’m actually interested in - the core DAW. I was hoping this would become the Ableton-style DAW that ends up offering a more robust MIDI editor, articulations, and more QoL features. Not sure where that hope sprang from. This move by Bitwig completely squelched it though.
Bitwig is also the most expensive DAW I know of. $170 per year to have the latest version is high priced compared to others. My other main DAWs, Cubase and Ableton, are less expensive in this regard. And they offer more value with each upgrade and show focus on improving the DAW itself. I’m going back to them.

I think quite a lot of people are wondering that, and I also think it's too early to state that they definitely won't respond. It may well be that they want to make sure that their response is better thought through than the change that caused this situation was. And that can take some time.Trancit wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:44 pm I wonder... why nobody seems to wonder ... that they completely stay silent...
They simply don´t feel the need to communicate with their userbase in any way
The lack of a more direct acknowledgement of the broad criticism they've been facing ("we hear ya, give us a moment as we figure things out") doesn't fill me with confidence, but there's still a chance they'll address it.

My biggest problem with Bitwig has always been the lack of core features or the lack of polish in some core features. At the end of the day, if I don't have a proper piano roll, all the cool features of Bitwig are not worth much.
This is exactly why I created this thread some months ago about the future of BWS.

After zero official comments from Bitwig, and seeing that dev time was being invested towards non core features, I ended up selling my license and moving to another DAW.

BWS certainly cut themselves in the fingers, now no one will buy another year plan anymore, but also not the add-ons. Hopefully there will not be a Bitwig Funeral soon because the product is still amazing, maybe they have to make some internal changes to get grip again in their marketing, like firing the person who's idea this was. I will still use Bitwig but normally I upgraded every year, now I know this money is not going to be used only for the year plan, I will probably use my latest subscription for the next 3 years or something.

I really think it would be healthy for them to transition to a open source model like Blender... its just a really good fit culturally and Blender is absolutely thriving.MADMANJ wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 5:14 pm BWS certainly cut themselves in the fingers, now no one will buy another year plan anymore, but also not the add-ons. I will... as soon as the next sale... and then I will likely activate it when my current plan expires
I also bought the Add-on already.

You still have 9 months left to see what new updates come along... you will for sure get 2 of them. 4.4 or 5.0, whatever the next one is called and then the one after that. Possibly a 3rd, but maybe not.
Since you already paid for those updates, you may as well see what is in them.

Personally I've never seen an affiliate link, or a google ad, or Baph selling anything. It doesn't seem like Baph cares about that stuff but I honestly have no idea because I don't know Baph and I don't watch the channel like a hawk so I won't assume anything.perpetual3 wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 10:44 am Baphometrix is pissed because Bitwig did not offer an NFR license (like they did for polarity, taches, and dahs glitch). Just goes to show how important the DAW really is or isn’t.
So I'm asking, what evidence do you have for this claim?

Have no idea what comment you are talking about but it's clearly been busy and get a years updates, with cheaper upgrade year upgrade plans.xbitz wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 10:43 am ofc. I've seen the African user's comment above Polarity's video it wouldn't help them too muchthey have chosen Bitwig exactly because of the pay-once-get-everything model
It's never been a pay once for ever model.
There's also no need to activate an upgrade plan immediately either.

this.. if one has an active upgrade plan it isn't much to think about, there is time to see what all these practically means.pdxindy wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:01 pmYou still have 9 months left to see what new updates come along... you will for sure get 2 of them. 4.4 or 5.0, whatever the next one is called and then the one after that. I've always been annoyed at Bitwigs lack of interaction with the community, small developers are usually good at this. For example U-He or Cockos(Reaper).
When making changes like this its hard to have the community with you if your already alien to them.
On the flip side they have been responsive when reaching out to them by mail, at least for me.

Don't worry we will make sure they lose 3 customers for every existing one who tolerates abuse/fraud.

And I'll do enough fundraising to make sure 9 customers can buy Bitwig for every 3 you make sure they lose.giacometti777 wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:16 pmDon't worry we will make sure they lose 3 customers for every existing one who tolerates abuse/fraud.

Now that it’s clear they’ve breached their contract and their response is the equivalent of “if you don’t like it, sue us”, I will not buy another contract from them. I just don’t do business with companies like that. I’ll use what I’ve paid for, but as the software develops after my plan expires it will become more and more likely that I’ll stop opening it. Not sure what they could do to make it right at this point … maybe if they would honor the contract for all plan holders, but it would depend on what else they have to say.pdxindy wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:01 pmYou still have 9 months left to see what new updates come along... you will for sure get 2 of them. 4.4 or 5.0, whatever the next one is called and then the one after that.
