Development time from “what” specifically…pdxindy wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:02 pmI sure hope they don't do that... that leads to lots of development time spent dealing with issues in various DAW's. Plus then they would have to create GUI's which is a big development time suck too.Digivolt wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:58 pm I haven't followed this much as I'm not a Bitwig user but I can't help but think this whole mess could have been avoided if they'd just released the Add-on as VST's you can use in any DAW

It was streamed live in VT's channel last night. It's gone now.fireapplered wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:01 pm The Benn Jordan and Venus Theory video is private now. Anyone know which channel it was on?
Recap:
The condescension from Mr. Jordan started straight out of the gate and never really stopped. Not so much VT.
Neither of them knew the annual subscription cost of Bitwig or even bothered to look it up.
At one point, they had the salient section of the EULA (1.3) up on the screen. Mr. Jordan didn't bother to read it. VT did.
An hour-ish in, they drifted into a discussion of high-end coffee makers. That's when I stopped watching.
From my perspective, it was not a good evening.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

What’s crazy is that there is some “corporate comedy” in this whole event, and surely some lessons for other companies to learn from.
Bitwig paid u-he some (i hope significant!) amount of money to give away Bazille/Satin to customers to tempt them to click Agree to the amended EULA that included add-ons in its scope before they released an actual add-on. They presumably also paid a lawyer (god, I hope not much) money to amend their EULA.
But they neglected to amend section 2.5! So they literally paid all that money to convert a “disappointment to customer expectations” into a “breach of contract”! And all to make sure a bitwig device was covered by their IP rights, which it probably was anyway!
Maybe that expensive stupidity is enough punishment on its own
EDITS: (1) come to think of it I really hope U-He got cash and not Bitwig equity or just CLAP goodwill for this! (2) given that Bitwig could have clarified their IP rights via a EULA amendment at the point of purchase of the add-on, I think it lends credibility to the theory that they were trying to pull a bit of a fast one here by getting users to acknowledge the existence of add-ons before the announcement. I guess the lesson is … if you’re going to try to pull a fast one on your contractual counterparties, make sure you have a competent lawyer helping you!!

I mean, it's one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?gnu23 wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:17 pm Neither of them knew the annual subscription cost of Bitwig or even bothered to look it up.
In fairness, though, the cost of the upgrade isn't really the issue. The complaint isn't that Bitwig is now bad value; the complaint, right or wrong, is that they misled users.

So the 2 shills removed the video, absolute bellends!
They deserve some backlash for this.
Edit: I don’t watch these YouTube muppets, but is this normal, do they remove content the majority don’t agree with?

No, it's atypical for VT.simmo75 wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:28 pm So the 2 shills removed the video, absolute bellends!

Yeah, I’m sure it’s great.pdxindy wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:47 pm The Spectral Suite is excellent... shame it got off to such a bad start
The shame as you say, is all Bitwigs own doing.

I like both of them, plus Polarity. It's a shame they are getting caught up in this. It would have been better just to say "I understand that many of you are upset, I have no inside track so I don't know why they did this or what they might do next. Maybe in the meantime we need to just make some music and not obsess over this".
I think also I was suprised at Benn who is normally astute psychologically when he talks about all the other bad things that are going on so this is a smaller thing. That's exactly perhaps why there is so much heat. Can't do anything much about Ukraine, can't do anything about inflation - this is something the community can safely rant about and let out that general frustration.

Or maybe on Bitwigs payroll.

Looks like a great set of devices. Was thinking about this today, but the funny thing is … given I have almost a year left on my plan, I will probably buy it to make the most of what I end up with! Still can’t see myself ever paying for an upgrade plan again thoughpdxindy wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:47 pm The Spectral Suite is excellent... shame it got off to such a bad start

Broadly, YouTube influencers fall into 2 categories.simmo75 wrote: Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:28 pm So the 2 shills removed the video, absolute bellends!

- rage click inducers
- trusted advisers
These guys fall into the later category. They are not on YouTube to inspire rage, so no, it's not common for YouTubers of this ilk to pull content. They actually NEED constant postings and large video libraries and subs to stay relevant to YouTube's recommendation algorithms.
Guaranteed they saw lots of angry comments and unsubscribes and pulled the content before any more damage could be done.
Agreed with the comment above that Venus brought less of the idiocy than Benn. I genuinely liked his prior content, but he just came off as an arrogant out of touch elitist (more so than usual). Anyone willfully rubbing shoulders with someone who has stupid or offensive ideologies will eventually be seen as a bird of the same feather... This is a lesser example of that.

Obviously how it happened is Bitwig's doing... but all the sockpuppets and people who don't even use Bitwig who are screaming and crying are their own twisted thing and that is not Bitwig's doing.
Lots of people just want to pile on when they see someone getting kicked. It's a sickness.

I don’t know either of them but I do work in music, so I know ego…
I bet they were paid by Bitwig to use their influence over there fan bases, to make Bitwig look good again… and it must have backfired big time for them to remove the video.
