It all comes down to whether existing users with active upgrade plans get the Spectral Tools. If they don't do that - they are done. At that point I hope they are forced to go open source like Blender so the wonderful devs can thrive and be free of this awful management.
LOL

By "thrive" I assume you mean, starve and quit.

This thread is 90 pages of children complaining that chocolate is too expensive.

According to Polarity on discord they will release a statement soon but we shouldn't expect a change in direction.

This 100%. Even if they dont back down with this new model they still owe active plan users this add-on

ozonepaul wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 10:02 am I don't think the decision makers at Bitwig really thought through how much their undefined/intertwined/uncommunicated "add-ons are new products" concept undermines the value of their upgrade plan subscription.
It does not necessarily change the value of the upgrade plan at all. If over the next months you receive just as much as you expected to prior to this, then nothing much has changed.

Basically, the mind assumes the worst and then reacts based on that assumption.
Perhaps we read it differently, but for me (unless they course correct) it already lowered the value of the upgrade plan big time. Eg. earlier, included in my upgrade plan payment I got the Grid. In my book that's a way more "highly specialized feature" than these add-on spectral tools.
So up until now my expectation could be described as: I expect some "surprises" as innovative and creative as the Grid. Now - as Bitwig still did not give any clear definition for "Core features" vs "Highly specialized features" - I expect absolutely nothing. I'm not even sure if it's possible for them to give a clear definition, ergo my expectations about what can be included in the "core" update plan is as low as it can be. And in that, I do not see any value, that's the reason I decided not to renew my subscription that run out 3 days ago.
You say:
I"f over the next months you receive just as much as you expected to prior to this, then nothing much has changed."
Expectation is a funny thing, I can not receive "just as much as I expected" because that would have to include the Spectral Suit as well :) My expectation was based on this: with my hefty subscription payment I signed up as a beneficiary of ALL publicly released creative endeavours of the Bitwig team. Now, I just don't have a clue what is it that I get for my money: 1% or 99% of Bitwig's creative endeavours? 1% or 99% of my original, (not very clearly defined, heavily trust based) "expectations"? :)

SLiC wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 11:37 am Personally, I just like the idea of all Bitwig users on the latest version having access to the same tools...once you do an optional add on it's a multi-tiered system and you may not have cross project compatibility etc
That's btw why I started to use Bitwig for a collab ... collab long gone, but I got stuck on BW until now. Glad I still have Cubase Pro in parallel.
Stuck with? It still works perfectly fine...

I also use it on a joint project and my band mate and we both agree its much nicer to work with than either Ableton or Cubase.

I don't get this sense of people wanting to throw it away - at great time and expense to themselves.

Yup...

Basically, I just want 4.4/5.0 to be announced and a public beta and there to be some cool sh*t in it that I will find useful.

Have I missed something? Did they take away half the DAW? Oh... Phew. It still works just as well as it did last week.

Given that in the past year people have already had 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 the most you could say it that you're 'maybe' missing 4.4

So 'maybe' someone had a couple of your maltesers? Or 'maybe' someone decided to sell mini packs of maltesers along side the kit kats.

I think people should have just discussed this in chocolate analogies from the start. :hihi:

Taking my chocolate is dangerous! I get angry if I have to share 1 malteser!!! :)

Ok here you go....We bought a box of chocolates and when we got home it was half empty. We took it back to the store and the manager said we'd have to pay extra for the other half.

How's that?

Speaking of chocolate you've got a little brown stuff on your nose. You might want to wipe that off. :hihi:

Are you just totally ignorant to world leading analogous projects like Blender? It’s crazy how people allow themselves to be so confident on partial understandings of the world.

So any announcement from Bitwig yet? It's 5pm on Monday in Berlin so they've had time to release a response.

At this point silence would only make things worse for them.
