I can, I never had to pick up IL's slack and I hope they read this and step up.

Hey, make me a moderator. I'll deal with this bunch of whingers in short order. :hihi:

The best part about this thread is the guys trying to convince all of us that this entire thing is not a bad deal.
lol

We went from :
You pay 170$ annual -> get everything that releases for the software. You know the GRID? that MASSIVE thing in Bitwig? You got it by the annual plan. Not 99$ Extra.

To:
You pay 170$ annual -> You get what now is subjectively part of the software and You have to pay extra for things that are now subjectively considered "extra" or "niche" or whatever. By the way it costs 99$

Last year, your spending in Bitwig was 170$. This year is 269$ if you "WaNt To gEt SEpARaTe PrOdUCtS~ "

This is a joke.

The ironic thing is this is the official Bitwig forum, the Bitwig Devs are the moderators!

Urs and U-He are obviously good friends with Bitwig, that says something there. IMO the Update Plan put them in a corner they tried to sneak out of, and the whole thing crashed on them badly.
I tend to think that they just didn't think this through in the first place. Otherwise it seems to me they would have had a response ready. It's hard to remember 90 pages back, but wasn't the FAQ on this written only after the backlash already started?

My guess is they might be one of those companies that think they're so great that they actually confuse things that are in their own best interests with what's good for their customers. I'd expect intentionally slimy behavior to be better thought out than this.

I think they left that all to Thom...

Its purpose is merely to use it as a dumpster for all those pesky user ideas.

I see Benn Jordan has also cut ties with Bitwig.

Can't say I blame them for abandoning the forums, were like a school of Pirahna.

machinesworking wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:39 pm There was no way for them to sell add ons separately from the Plan, or introduce that concept without this fiasco, that's why it's the problem.
Oh, they could've introduced a new, cheaper Bitwig Core plan that just contains the DAW basics (but is not limited in track count), and spun e.g. the Grid, the recent set of "+" plugins and midi effects, and the new spectral suite out into add-ons for that cheaper plan, while keeping existing users on the all-inclusive plan. If necessary, raise the price of that one with a bit of a notice period.

I think that would've gone down much more smoothly.

machinesworking wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:17 pm Case in point, Ableton introduced Sampler, the big brother to Simpler which was free in Live. They charged for it, and later Suite was introduced. No one thought too much of it, because it was never promised or assumed that all Live content would be included in Live. No "future updates" were ever mentioned.
I used to frequent the Ableton forum and there were sh!tstorms worse than this one over there. Their update model did not prevent that.
Whole heartedly disagree, I'm a regular there, since 2004.
People were upset, nothing like this though.

machinesworking wrote: Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:17 pm TL;DR - The main crux of this is the Update Plan is unique, and probably for good reason, look how it's turning out for Bitwig.
It was working perfectly fine for years until they broke it 6 days ago.

You're probably right, I'm still not convinced that there isn't some financial reason for this, people have said their numbers look good, but IMO the Update plan opens them up for less consistency than upgrades, and they looked to resolve that. It's hard for me to imagine there wasn't at least one employee that thought this was a terrible idea though, unless they have a truly top down approach to the business and no one but the CEO gets to decide these things.

When they finally finish answering all the angry customer emails, this will probably turn into a 3 page thread of positive comments :)

Influencers ditching them now - interesting.
