Not imposters. Soundtoys founders were the designers for some of Eventide's best-known products, like the H3000.
Yes but are they ’designer imposters ‘?

Isnt 'design imposter' the definition of the entire audio software host and plugin industry?

I can't rate them, cause their copy protection isn't up to my alley

Yep. Same here. Just saying.

I didn't know that until recently, and would never have thought judging the plugins I know and own from them.

I like Eventide's stuff much more than Soundtoys, but, maybe I'm wrong in assuming that Eventide's more recent stuff builds up sonically on their very long legacy.

They still sound as good as they ever did...nothing has diminished over time; they are some of the best sounding fx you can buy. The 'rack' makes then far more useful than a collection of single VSTS, probably the reason I use ST most.
VST3 and M1 as free updates was nice, the developers seem very cool, always free stuff and new presets and supporting good causes. Just a big thumbs up from me.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

"We will continue to support both VST3 and VST2 formats for all products for the time being."

This tells me they are planning on dropping VST2 support at some point in the future.
It would be a good idea to swap out any VST2 instances with VST3 while you can.

It took a long time, but they did it right : vst3 versions automatically replace vst2 here.

That all depends on your DAW as well as the plugin apparently. Was just reading a post over at the Cubase forums where a user was having this issue with his plugins not getting replaced. According to some, its the plugin devs fault for not doing it properly, but the same thing happened to some during the ST beta test. SoundToys claimed it was the DAW for not implementing it properly.

Apparently they code all their VSTs strictly by the Steinberg book so they should work perfectly in Cubase, but other DAWs had some issues with it here and there that aren't exactly 100% up to spec.

I beta test for SB..
My DAWs of choice is Cubendo on mac and pc.
I am surprised a cubase user would have an issue, unless it is with an early beta.
I know some daws (like Reaper I believe) fixed issues during the long beta period of these so that their DAW too can seemlessly substitute ST vst2 for vst3.. As far as I know that too is working.

Don't much remember about other DAWS though tbh.

I think that was a specific issue with Reaper and plugin names that contain hyphens, which was already fixed by Reaper's developer.

Ah yes this was the Reaper fix I remember hearing of.

Cubase 12 user here. No problems as far as I can see. They even list the plug ins as types now in the menu, rather than just a big list. It's the little things that matter.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Post

No issues in Cubase 12 Pro with vst 2 being replaced by vst 3 plugins in projects here so far.
