If you could have only one synth, what would you choose?

I find Dune 3 to sound sterile compared to Icarus, Viper, and Spire. Maybe I should try making my own patches?Vortifex wrote: Thu Oct 13, 2022 3:39 pm Choice between Icarus 2 and Dune 3. Icarus is more versatile but I prefer Dune's interface. Can't decide tbh.

Over the years the only hardware synths that I have liked have been subtractive analogue, FM, or just plain old Romplers. Oh, and obviously hardware samplers. So now I am more or less "in the box" with just four hardware synths, (and two of those have recently broken down), I still like the same things in software. "Do it all" synths just do not appeal. As the old saying goes, " Jack of all trades - master of none". So there is no single "do it all synth" that would ever satisfy my needs.

thats a really tough one. but actually it would be waves flow motion. never got so much fun to use a gui making my own presets instead of editing others.

i need more data.
how has this occurred? what is the impetus for having just one synth? have alien overlords invaded and this is a new rule? is it a financial constraint? hard drive space?
my answer could very well be different depending on why we have ended up in a situation where only one synth is allowed.
