If you could have only one synth, what would you choose?

Choice between Icarus 2 and Dune 3. Icarus is more versatile but I prefer Dune's interface. Can't decide tbh.

Yeah... Icarus has more synthesis possibilities... you can resynthesize audio into wavetables, there are the many morph modes to apply to wavetables, you can morph a wavetable and then resynthesize that into a new wavetable, morph again, resynthesize, etc. You can also use samples in the Osc's. You can do vocoding, timestretching, granular resynthesis, etc.

Yep...plus, it also has a great array of filters, and a drum machine!

The Waldorf M would be my choice if I could only have 1 hardware synth.

Mine would be Waldorf Rocket, even over my Uno Pro.

I got that beat, mine was given to me when I traded a guy my Virus for his Nord Modular back in 2004 or so. He had 'that old thing' just sitting around and said 'Here take this too and get it out of here'..

Even fro free I'd be disappointed, Shitful thing the SH 101 is. I paid $450 for mine, brand new and it did a job for me for a couple of years but I'd never even suggest it was any good. I preferred my ARP Axxe in every way, even though I couldn't strap it on like a guitar.

I am also surprised that Hive didn't get any mentions. It is in my top 3. Also, no love for Avenger, Rapid, or ANA 2?

I never really rated Hive, its sound isn't quite there for me and I don't particularly enjoy working with it. ANA-2 might get a look in over DUNE but I've never really put them head-to-head to see.

So many great sounding synths, but if I could have only one software synth, and it would be used with various hardwares, I think Synthmaster One would be my first choice, because the sounds are good enough, and it has midi-out to use with the other gear.

If the choice was for a single synth including 3rd party soundsets, I think I'd choose Hive.

If the choice was for just the stock product, I think I'd go for the Fathom modular.

If sampler/rompler software were included as synths, SampleTank III MAX might be my first choice,
based on absurdly easy layering and stability, using a sufficient sound library.

I got Thorn on sale a while back, but medical calamities have precluded using it, or anything else very much. The presets I tried were excellent, so when this thread get's necroed in a few years, it could well have taken over first place.

Now I want to put them all in a session, and melt some cpu cores
