Heya....

is there an easy (and inexpensive) way to remote record with waveform?

Please picture this.... I have two small rooms, one with the drums and amps in and one with my desk and computer. So nowadays I either have to use a laptop in the "live-room" or run between rooms when recording.

What I need would be a simple way to hit "record" and "abort & restart" while sitting behind the drums, that's all I need really...

cheers,
mully

The cheapest would be a wireless qwerty keyboard. Depending on its range.
You can map the functions to what keys you want. On mine the space bar does play/stop. (R)does record, and I mapped
F1 to abort & record
Windows 10 / Intel core i7 2700k @ 3.50GHz / 16GB Ram / Emu 1212m Sound Card / Ati Radeon HD5400 Series G/Card

Hi, an alternative could also be to do a screen mirroring to a mobile or tablet using the same local network.

Have you looked at TouchDAW? https://xmmc.de/touchdaw/

Use the laptop to remote login to the main DAW. That gives you the advantage of seeing the DAW screen.

Or, if the rooms are relatively close, and you're not fussed about visual feedback, use a simple USB control surface like the Presonus Faderport. (Use active USB cables for more than 2-3m long distances.)

TouchOsc https://hexler.net/touchosc Will do exactly what you require. I have the original mk1 version ( I just noticed that they have a new version with more functions if required ), which is still being updated after 10 years and it's quite easy to setup within Waveform.

For no money at all, set the whole thing as a loop like you might do for multi-pass vocal recording, possibly with space at the front or back and start it playing and recording. When you're settled at your drums, wait for the beginning to come round and start playing.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

works flawlessly

the keyboard fix was for free as well since I already had one flying about.... thanks for the idea but tbh I usually f**k up in the beginning and would hate to have to listen to the song OVER and OVER in it's entirety just so I can screw things up again in the first two seconds.

what OS?

ive used VNC in the past, and there are free versions for just about everything
i use windows' built-in remote desktop at work
i now use splashtop (subscription based) around the house and for accessing my home system from work

The next step is finding a nice wall panel to connect both rooms.... but I can't seem to find any decent ones.
I need 4 XLRs and 4 Stereo TRSs on both sides (one side male the other female obviously) and it should preferably look good as well. But I guess that's another thread altogether

I'd start off with some variety of VNC since it would be free. Not sure what the best one would be for Mac, but Im sure you'll find plenty of suggestions/comparisons if you Google.

Usually you'll find there's a server, which goes on the system you want to control, and a client, which goes on the remote system.
