Waveform 12 audio issues

Back in April, I noted the following problem that's still occurring: Live audio recorded is often destroyed on input.

- Problem occurs if source is a mic through a pre-amp, or recorded from an instrument
- If from a mic on a pre-amp, it typically manifests itself when creating a comp track (specifically, looping)
- If from a live instrument, it's noticeable almost immediately whether looped or not.
- Issue 1: a crackling noise occurs *in time* with the BPM of the project. In other words, if the project is set to 120 BPM, there will be an obvious, super-short crackle recorded at every beat of the song. Change the BPM, and the crackling changes with the tempo--always on the quarter note. Crackling is most obvious with an instrument.
- Issue 2: a whine is recorded in the background, very obviously. Most common with comp tracks after the third or fourth loop.

Notes:

- The audio issues are recorded: checking the audio outside of Waveform confirms the crackling or the whine is recorded within Waveform. So it's recording the noises at input.
- Resetting the audio input and output from the Setup menu corrects the problem almost always, but the problem will return with the next take or two. This is also impossible to do when looping. It's frankly very time consuming when doing individual takes.
- Resetting input OR output is not enough: I have to reset both.
- I never get crackling and whining on the same take--one or the other.
- Crackling appears almost immediately on setting the input on the track. Whining only appears after looping, and never the first couple of takes.
- Changing buffer size has no effect. None.
- More critically: if I use Waveform v11.5, the problem does NOT manifest itself. I'm at the point where I need to record all live audio with 11.5 and then bring it into v12 once it's all recorded. Which is stupid, but it's faster than dealing with constant resetting of the input and output after a couple takes.

So it's something with the revamped audio engine. Latest v12, Win 10. Audio interface is an Alesis, which is not exhibiting any issues with other recordings or products--just Waveform v12.

Realistically and very unfortunately, it looks like Tracktion has checked out of KVR and abandoned this site, so I very much doubt there will be any formal response to this. However, I'm curious if anyone here has experienced something equivalent in v12 and has ideas.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

One of the devs was signed into KVR today.
