MMetronome periodically stops running

I have the MMetronome set into Protools as a track, and sometimes when I press play it does not product the click nor the visual tick. If I disable the metrome from the ui and then press enable button again to enable it starts running. This is quite annoying, what could be causing this?

I'd guess that PT thinks the plugin is an effect, so it cannot generate any sound or something. Try putting some silent wave on the track you have it on.
