As I wrote somewhere else, I want to try them soon.
I gave a look at the manuals and they left out some features of the originals (for example, I will miss the step/advance feature of the MF-105M, which maybe could have been implemented using midi notes as a trigger...), but they included some not avaible on the original hardware (stereo audio path, bipolar envelope amount and envelope response controller by a knob instead of a rocker switch on the MF-101)...
I think I will have to try them and probably buy them to take advantage of their unique features and keep using the hardware ones where it matters / when I need those hardware features...

The price is actually surprising to me, I would have guessed they would charge a lot more.

I think the "hardware manufacturer moves to software because of parts shortages" thing is overstated.theviirus wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 12:13 am Part of me suspects they plopped these into software for two reasons: to capitalize on the popularity during a time where manufacturing anything is hell; to diminish whatever returns Behringer's clone attempts may net them.
Moog has been doing software for a while -- there were ProTools versions of Moogerfoogers as far back as 2000 (though I bet they weren't this good). The pedals themselves were discontinued in 2018.
Likewise, Noise Engineering had Reason plugins for quite some time, and hired a developer for the VST stuff in early 2020 before the shortages were hitting hard. While they did wound up delaying the release of some modules to use different parts, they have no trouble shipping their current lineup.

It was Bomb Factory who made those, though, not Moog themselves, though there was some sort of involvement from Bob et al. BF did various hardware emulations at that time, eventually got bought up by Avid, so those plugins are now 'stock' to PT.foosnark wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 1:31 pm Moog has been doing software for a while -- there were ProTools versions of Moogerfoogers as far back as 2000 (though I bet they weren't this good).
I -think- that Moog's actual software debut was the iOS stuff.

Fantastic news. I have two MF-103s and had a few of the others before going down the Eurorack rabbit hole, and it's good to see them again. I look forward to playing around with the 108 and the others I never got around to.
I'm very surprised at how high you have to drive a signal to get the clip light to turn orange. On both of mine it doesn't take much -- granted they're ostensibly guitar pedals and so probably geared for low-level signals. They do seem to start to saturate before the light turns however.

That doesn't sound ideal.dumbledog wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 3:49 pm They do seem to start to saturate before the light turns however.
Does the light level depend on the signal, or is it just on/off.
It's the sort of thing that in software can be improved so easily. Light level, even green amber red colour. Especially helpful if things start to saturate.
Ohm boyz ohmicide does this really well. Input level and led make it clear what level you need the input.

As I recall, they were not developed by Moog, tho they did carry the brand name.greententacle wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:17 pm if i remember correctly, they where available in pro tools long time ago. where those also from moog?
I believe Bomb Factory was the dev.....maybe a licensing deal? I would guess that,
as these new ones were released Moog themselves, they might sound closer to the
original hardware. I'll never be able to A/B 'em against the hardware tho as the pedals
are going for crazy money these days.

I like the (more polite imo) behaviour of the plugins.
Will buy them (perhaps).

It goes from green to flickering orange, to red-orange. It mimics the hardware well enough, but their virtual diodes aren't as sensitive as mine._leras wrote: Sat Oct 22, 2022 9:30 amThat doesn't sound ideal.dumbledog wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 3:49 pm They do seem to start to saturate before the light turns however.

The drive is a pretty integral part of the sound though. When I run stuff through mine I tend to set the drive so it gets to a nice consistent orange, without too much clipping.
