Just thought I'ld mention that I had recently installed XP Service Pack 2 and it had serious impact on Tracktion and the Tascam US122 USB sound device I have. Basicly once SP2 was on, I couldn't record a single track without significant drops, delays, pops, etc. I deinstalled SP2 and everything went back to normal. I think the problem had to do with how XP SP2 handles the USB.
Anybody have similar experience?

This should not be related to Tracktion. It works fine in SP2. But you are correct that SP2 had some major changes to USB Audio so I would suspect that something changed for the worse for your interface. Have you checked Tascams website/forum to see if they have any information or an update for this?

Thanks Beno... I figured this was a problem with the US122 and Windows so I dropped them an email explaining the problem. I will let you know what they say when they get back to me.

this is what fixed the problem on my system....hope this will help you....
I had to uninstall and reinstall Tracktion and the software for my sound card....after doing that everything worked fine...
I was told that the problem was caused by tracktion trying to use the old drivers and Windows saying " no, use these new ones instead.
reinstalling allows Tracktion and the sound card to see the new drivers as the default and use them without interuption...

sp2 updates on virgin xp installs are usually fine, but as with any major OS update, if anything is flaky before the update, you can safely bet it will be deeply buggered afterwards.

I was thinking of updating to sp2 simply because I heard that it allows more power to usb ports. I thought this may be advantage with the US-122 (which I use quite happily) when using phantom power for condensor mikes (if you're using two that's quite a drain on one usb port). A comment here. I've just installed SP2 slipstreamed in a new OS install, and although I've had no compatibility problems so far, I have to say it's the most annoying, unsecure, poorest excuse for an OS that I ever handled.

there may be some confusion: ISTR that SP2 offered improved Firewire drivers that raise the maximum throughput ceiling, and handle the stream more efficiently. This is am effort to overcome serious shortfallings in the windows implementation of firewire. I don't recall reading anything about USB though, and I have noticed any difference personally.

The voltage supplied by the USB port (12V?) is not sufficient to serve as 48V phantom power. If the Tascam unit has its own power supply and says it delivers 48V phantom power, than just stop worrying. It will do as advertised on the box (or sue them bastards!)

hmm. no external power supply and designed to run 2 phantom-powered mikes simultaneously. wattage used is extremely low, and doesn't seem to be a problem for many users (i.e. voltage not seen as an issue). otherwise, is sp2 really worth having as an update anyway? I was under the impression the main developments were security-related, which doesn't bother me at least since i don't hook my daw up to anything else.
