Short cut keys that move up and down the program/ preset list.

Why?

So the you can easily select a filter (synth) then press the appropriate short cut to go to the next preset.

Saves having to fiddle around with the mouse to find the right preset sound when playing a synth.

N.B. Could the keys still work even if the vsti has focus?

Up and Down arrows do this. You have to have the preset box in focus tho.

EDIT: Oh I see, you probably mean the other Tracktion preset list. I agree.

What "other Tracktion preset list".

Well theres the "programs" box, and theres the built in tracktion presets manager. You can flip through the programs with up down arrows but you cant flip through the Tracktion presets. I'm guessing this is what Tingle was talking about.

Actually I was talking about the programs, but without the need to click the mouse on it to bring it into focus. Just select a synth and still be able to adjust the program selection (i call presets) with a user definable short cut key.

Think of it this way: load a synth, move one of it's sliders then press the space bar. the play head of tracktion plays. Now wouldn't it be nice to be able to scroll through the progam presets in this imediate manner?

Buy making program +/- user defined keys you could do this. :)

But surely one click of the mouse isn't that big of a deal. Click on the box, then up and down arrow keys. The problem is that when a VSt interface is in focus, all of the key commands go to it, not Tracktion. So you need to click back onto Tracktion to give it focus again. So since you have to click anyway, just click on the Preset box.

Not so with space, could it not be with a couple of other user defined keys?

It's not just clicking the mouse, it's clicking the mouse in a precise part of the screen (which may well be covered with a vst).

Efficency in mouse clicks is where Tracktion wins big time.

I guess it would be cool if there was a special short cut for it. But I personally dont mind clicking on the preset box much.

I know what you mean, but as this is one of the main things that I do when using tracktion, ie. looking for the right sound in a synths, it just makes sense to make it that tiny bit quicker.

I would of thought this would be a pretty popular thing that most people do with tracktion.

It wouldn't be hard[1] for Jules to set up some key hooks so that certain keys are captured even before they reach the plugin interface.

[1] under 'doze at least, but I imagine since OSX is built on *nix, things'd be similar

It maybe that I can still use space when a VST is in focus because I'm using MKEY (cheers Valley :)).

OK, good point Valley. I'm convinced. I'll add it to the request list. Now let me see if I can convince Jules.

Ben,

What exactly is the 'request list' you mentioned here?

And getting back onto topic. Is there a way to get my old-school midi controller (which is an Ensoniq VFX-SD) to transmit this information while I'm auditioning presets? I'm right handed, and this keyboard is on a stand to the right of my PC keyboard and mouse. As it stands right now, I have to go 'lefty' with the mouse and up/down arrow keys while my right hand is on the keyboard. I'd love to be able to do it without the Rick Wakeman, arms out to both sides kind of approach.
