foldable window header idea

I use a small display resolution, and sometimes the vertical length is not enough for plugins that require a large display area. So, for example, it would be very helpful if there was an option to hide the header part of the window like this.

Perhaps a reduction in height at least would be beneficial and easier for Jo, maybe? In which case more likely to be implemented.

I really like this idea :hyper:

I'm sure there are many other priorities, but please consider this as well!

I kinda like the idea but prefer to keep it visible. Reducing its height would be much better imo.

What about combining the menu header and title bar, is that possible. Then everyone wins. No need to hide the header and it reduces the height in one go. 😁

Allow me to be the greedy one and say I'd like the header and title bar combined, reduced in size AND collapse able... Thanks. :) hehehe!

No but in all seriousness, I think collapse able is a great idea. +1 from me. (other ideas are good too, I just like tucking things out of the way when I'm doing things.)

Post

But if it's combined with the Title Bar then it's both collapsed and viewable at the same time!

+1 on this. Especially for plugins that want to be "full display height" this would be very useful :D

+1 as well as scroll bars for gui that you want a bit bigger.

I'm having a look at foldable top controls for MUX / plugin editors.

When folded it indeed might be a good idea to add the process on/off led + an options button + an unfold button in the title bar, so there still is an instant way to switch the module on/off, or access its context menu. But i'm wondering what would be the best place to put these 3 buttons, also taking into account the different layout of the title bar on Windows and MacOS.

And should the process on/off + an options button stay in the title bar when the top controls are unfolded = visible? Then the controls are spread and that might not look / feel neat. Atoh if they would disappear in unfolded state, because they're in the top controls section as before, then only the "Fold" button would stay in the title bar? Or also add a bigger "Fold" button inside the top controls?

Basically this FR sounds like something straightforward but these little details makes it a bit less easy.
Ideas / feedback welcome.

Can't all of it go central in title bar? That way no need to fold unfold or worry about aesthetics.

What about these draft mockups for MUX / plugin editor windows with folded top controls:

Personally I will never use it as I think its better to have it shown at all times. But it looks good so far. If this is the way you will do it, I would prefer the Name of the Mux window to be central for Windows as it is for the Mac. As I think it looks a bit messy on the Windows pic.

The main MuLab window has the transport bar and window controls in its title bar, can't the same be done for all other windows? Or is there a reason you don't want to do that?

On Windows it's the convention to put the title text at the left side of the title bar.

That said, personally i'd also prefer centered text in window title bars.

I think the reason for the Foldable Top Controls request is for the user being able to put the MUX / plugin editor window in its minimal state regarding both height and width.
If you would keep all controls in an extended title bar, as you suggest, then you won't gain much.

Here is a draft mockup for a small front panel like in Roomy Chorus, but the same case also occurs for small VST / CLAP plugin editors:
Original unfolded:

Folded:

NB: In this Roomy Chorus Folded mockup i've centered the title text because it's a small title bar and left aligning would look a bit odd. This could be implemented for small windows.

What do you guys think about this solution?
