Idk if this is worth having if I already have Icarus 2.

haha. same thing as with spire (and i have spire AND icarus 2). they're all.... not the same! and i can use all 3!

i can understand, for example, choosing between sublab, sublab XL, or subdivine for a sub bass sound. but most synths have some similarities (a sawtoothy synth, flute-like or bell-like sounds, etc) and also... their own qualities.

go for what moves you, or... not. nothing else matters.

Seems like they cover very similar ground except Icarus has way more functionality, so you wouldn't be filling any gaps in terms of missing features by getting this. As an Icarus owner I think getting this would be a triumph of GAS over need. Still, I'd have liked a demo, purely for scientific testing purposes of course Not about to take a gamble for 80 quid though.

i have icarus 2, it's great. but you could say that about most plugins, until... you only wind up with one.

i enjoy having different sounds, interfaces to play with. and 'similar ground' is not the same as 'identical'...

Depends. For me, it's comparative simplicity makes me far more likely to buy it, not less. But I will definitelly need a demo/trial version to play around with before I can possibly make any decision.

Wasn't it mentioned sometime about 1-2 years ago that owners of Vanguardv1 get the V2 version for free or for a reduced upgrade price?

When I go through the presets, I often get the horrible init sound. I have to choose another preset and then the preset again. Then it works.

Haven't seen that one, open a ticket with support. Include a screen recording with audio if you can.

here too, it seems. it's like you have to let a preset show it's sound when you click on it, then you click on it again to load it (and if you play the keyboard, you get the init sound).
