Fircomp, the free version. Set SC to De-ess, ratio to 10, knee to hard, fast attack and release. The most important thing to make the good old classic compressor/sidechain de-essing technology work is imho automating the threshold to best fit the sibilances. By doing that carefully, I usually get better results than just brute force slamming any of those modern fancy intelligent algorithm plugins on it.

If you have dynamic spectral equalizer, be it Sooth, Smooth Operator, DSEQ or similar you have a de-esser that you can hone in and soften those resident peaks.
I picked up Smooth Operator it's great on de-essing and pretty light.

Airwindows DeEss and/or DeBess. Best de-essers I've ever tried, not used anything else since discovering them.

There are better signatures out there.

Tried it, surprisingly good! Will post WTB thread once my account is >14 days old...

Looks a bit cheesy, but I'll give it a go, it is free after all.

That's what I use.

If you couldn't find a seller, Waves is having sale right now, and it's $25. It's even cheaper at Plugin Discount ($22.30). They have sales constantly throughout the year though. This price may come back again if you miss it.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

YSFX <- Tukan DeEsser. Or the beforementioned Accusonus.

Spectral usually does more than +30 band of EQ, depending on the the algorithm acts like multiband compressor, usually Spectral will focus on resonances depending on the settings and it's processing algorithm of the plugin. That's mostly my understanding and what they do the sound. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeh, i reckon Waves is pretty good bang for buck

DeEss really is good. Use it a lot for 'general' duties then another de-esser (Toneboosters, Spitfish etc) to automate and clean up any stray bits, if required.

On a related note - pencil to the lips when singing really is a good trick to minimise the need in the first place, honest!

DeEss really is good.
For reasons unknown to humanity, Cubase 12 refuses to load it. Such life.

I dislike spectral de-essers and multiband de-essers. imo they sound wrong and cause a lisp.
I have soothe2 and don't use it for de-essing at all.

Same goes for dynamic EQs, they only duck the high band of the S signals. In that case, i much prefer a compressor with a sidechain bandlimit so the whole signal ducks when S kicks in, it's much more transparent.

I personally use fabfilter Pro-DS exclusively.

Set to Single-vocal and Broadband, it's extremely transparent. You can set threshold to whatever and it will detect sibiliances consistently without fail. Range just tells you how much you want them attenuated.

I very often use it at the end of the chain, with sidechain input being fed from the source (unprocessed) vocal.

Depends on how much time you have to waste with your sibilances, for me Fabfilter has paid for itself more than most other plugins i have, since it saves me a fuckload of time on every mix, which means i can chug out more mixes in the same timeframe.

or if i don't have any, i can watch netflix. Either way, time better spent than fondling sibilances
