A demo that crashes because it has a feature disabled is not a good look.

At any rate I'm confident that Jon and Rob will fix any issues....if they can track them down. The more information we can provide the easier it will be for them to fix.

Yes I hope so, I’ll keep sending them my findings and post them here also. Was the previous version of Blue solid?

WatchTheGuitar wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 3:18 pm What pc/mac specs, DAW version and o/s do those getting the issues have?
Apple macbook Pro 14inch M1, 16gb Ram, OS Monterey 12.5, Ableton Live 11.1.6 this is using the AU version, not tried VST.

It’s been an absolutely rock solid setup so far, no previous crashes or bugs ever.

And this is using just Blue3 in isolation not alongside any other plugs
maybe try installing the VST too, would be good to know if it has the same issue or not.

Are you safe?

Nice one, thanks!
Would be great if you add timecodes :tu:

Thank you :)
Good idea, timecodes added.

For those wondering about stability issues, this is v1.0.0 and it's not stable.
It's easy to crash the plugin, I suspect that will happen regardless of your system. FWIW, I'm using the full VST version, Win 10, Reason 12.
Loading and playing presets works fine, the crashes I've experienced are mostly when editing things like FM routings and trying some more complex things in the mod matrix.

I've never had crashing issues with Blue2 since I bought it in 2017; but it was already a 3 years old, mature product by then.
Blue3 just launched, and it's (at least as I see it) the RP flagship synth, so I'd expect those bugs to be sorted with top priority.

thanks for the review/overview

This is the first time I'm finally seeing the FM matrix, and I have to say I'm struggling to make sense of the new layout choice... the final outputs as first thing on the left, with arrows pointing from the outputs towards the matrix... what? :help:

Thanks for watching :)
I also found this layout confusing, I intuitively thought the axes were swapped. Took some time to get my head around. When you add in the fact that you control volume both in the FM matrix and the osc panels it gets even more confusing.

Yes. Blue II has always been rock solid here going back many years.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Despite some concerns I went ahead and purchased and I'm pleased to say that with some fairly deep-diving whilst making patches this evening the full version worked ok.

I'm finding it very intuitive to work with, just kind of click with it somehow. It lends itself very well to the music I make and I'm enjoying how it sounds- I have to agree with Teksonik's earlier comments on this. The presets are very useable.

Pinning my hopes on some relative continued stability and some updates soon. If all else fails I installed Blue2 alongside it so will revert back if necessary

AsgardBS wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 12:14 am I never heard of Rob Papen until recently. Can someone explain me the hype around Rob Papen synth? This look like the most niche synth community.

What does BLUE II/BLUE III compare to other existing synth out there? What does it make it more preferable to other alternative (and what synth are most similar to it)?
Rob Papen is a pretty much a veteran in sound design and synth development and has been making soft synths for decades. Blue started out as primarily an FM synth similar to FM7, Rhino, etc. but has evolved even further beyond that and now covers many different synthesis types. As mentioned, download the demo and try it. You’ve probably never used anything like it, so maybe you’ll love it.
Took some more interest in BLUE II in the past week just because its one of the few "modern" FM synth that still has the mod matrix...

FM synth are very rare these day, or at least, classic FM synth with algorithm or mod matrix (only opsix and e'fm are the other one I know that still do classic FM)...
Sytrus is outdated (cannot run it on a Mac except if running FL studio, they don't sell a mac OS vst, and don't see it as a first class product anymore but more as a built in FL studio plugin)
FM8 is outdated
Not interested in a dx7 clone
...

Unsure if there are other FM synth out there, if so which one?
Reason Algoritm. 9 slots, free routing. Any slot can hold an OP, a filter, a wave table, or a wave shaper. Very powerful and easy to work with. One of the absolute best FM synths available as it can do hybrid setups so easily.

This should be tagged as a bug.

Version 1.0.0a can now be found in "my products" section on www.robpapen.com. I'll try the version after work and I'm hopeful.
