No Live levels in my Mixer Window?

So, I'm not getting any levels in my mixer window, even when my tracks are armed for record -Like there is no little vol/ gain bar that appears when I'm adjusting the levels of my microphones. It's not until AFTER I record and play back the clips that my little bars start bouncing up and down -Nothing on my master either. No level. Not until I play the track back... This is a little inconvenient for me, because when I'm at the drum kit I like to see all my 14 mic levels bouncing before me so that I can set my levels. Without this, I can't really make sure there's nothing clipping...
Am I setting something wrong?? I seem to remember being able to do this before...
Thanks.

It's the same for me either way -No moving bars in my volume meter in the mixing panel -I CAN open up the bottom window and see the bar move there, and, I can see the bar move in the tiny bar on the side next to the track name on each track -But, nothing in the mixer window volume meter until after I record and playback the track...

You don't see input levels on individual tracks, or on the master, or both ? I just tested with 11 and 12 (but I only have a simple 2-channel USB mixer); but it did reflect both - although on master had to set it to sum/difference mode for some reason, to have the master level visible.
Really sounds like that "live input monitoring" thing. Remember the check box is to the RIGHT of the text. The one beside it (left) is actually the "treat as stereo pair", which initially fooled me.

Yes -No input/ signal level on any individual tracks in the mixer window and none on the master -I'm getting the signal on the tiny horizontal bar on the left side of each track right underneath the title. And, if I click on the track title on the left and open up the bottom control panel I can see the volume meter there, as well...Peter Widdicombe wrote: Fri Nov 25, 2022 5:44 pm You don't see input levels on individual tracks, or on the master, or both ?
Doesn't matter if "live input monitoring" is engaged or not -Same deal...
*EDIT -Just tried it again with live input monitoring and it WORKED!! Was mentioning to another poster that I heard that live input monitoring can cause latency? Is this true in your experience??
Also wonder why it didn't work last night... Must've had something not on or set properly...

Just did it now with live input monitoring on and it WORKED!! Yay!!! So... Am I good?? I heard something about latency happening when live input monitoring is on??
Wonder why it didn't work for me last night... Hmm...

If it worked and sounded good, latency won't be an issue. You'll know when you hear it.

Gonna give it a go on a session tomorrow. Omg -If I can ACTUALLY track the way I need to in Waveform that would be such a huge win. I'd love to not have to track in Reaper anymore, but whatever...

The latency issue will be noticed depending on how the audio path back to YOU is being processed. If you are listening to the device from the device or external mixer only (and not being fed through Waveform and ASIO), there will be "no" delay; and the "live input monitoring" setting would only apparently be noticeable (in your case) on the output meters. This sounds like your case, as you could hear the sound, but not see meters (so you must have been listening (at least your drums) through a pre-DAW feed - like headphones into your digital drum head; or you have a real miked drum kit, no amp needed...
If it were a guitar fed DI into the audio interface to Waveform, then using an amp simulator with effects via Waveform output (or a keyboard controller and VST), you would DEFINITELY know and feel that short latency delay if your buffers setting was too long (or staticky if too short for the system to handle).

Okay, thanks, Peter -yeah, I'm just listening through my audio interface: Mics> Interface> computer>Waveform and I intend to really push Waveform and this old laptop as far as they can go tracking-wise today...
Also -I think the reason i wasn't seeing the output meters in either the master or the mix window was because the "arm for record" wasn't on. I think I was turning if off inbetween something -that must be the case...

Yeah, as a safety measure of some sort, Waveform will disarm itself under certain conditions. Like if you change the input from one track to another, the "armed" mode disarms itself.

Is that to avoid a feedback loop or something -Kind of like Reaper's "Auto Mute" mechanism (which I think is brilliant, by the way. Wish Waveform had that...)??Watchful wrote: Sat Nov 26, 2022 7:24 pm Yeah, as a safety measure of some sort, Waveform will disarm itself under certain conditions. No, I suspect it's there to avoid accidentally recording before you're really ready. You can image how many inane studio conversations you could accidentally eat up hard drive space with.

Nice. Well, Waveform is coming along, I suppose! I'll tell ya, though -I used waveform for the first time today to do a whole production; Recording, rough mixing etc. -And the fact that the undo doesn't tell you WHAT YOU'RE UNDOING is a serious detriment... Didn't really know what the big deal was until I started doing more serious tracking in it. Such a bummer...
