i need Help wrote: Sat Nov 26, 2022 4:02 am My updated list of BF transgressions:
Melodyne 5 upgrade :$49
Algoritm for Reason: $69
BV-X for Reason: $69
Chord Sequencer for Reason: $49
DriveShaper 2 & VolumeShaper 7 upgrades: $20

And now to tempt you!

[temptation]
If you have any Cableguys ShaperBox add-ins, they’re only 10 bucks to upgrade each!
[/temptation]

[temptation]
If you have Melodyne Studio 3-4, it’s only 49 bucks to get Studio 5, and unlike most companies now days, Celemony doesn’t seem to be on a yearly release cycle, so v5 will probably be current for the next few years! When you think of that, $49 is a steal!
[/temptation]

I AM SO TEMPTED.....NOT

I really wanted to be tempted today. It just hasn't happened. I don't think that it's going to happen.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

The Melodyne thing is stupid not to take advantage of if you qualify for it and like Melodyne, looking at my records over the last 10 yrs, I've never spent less than $149 on a major upgrade.

*Of course I moved across versions during that time, essential to editor, editor to studio, studio to
studio.

£1.39...
Which samples did you bought and where? Would like to join :)

It's actually a nice little collection of generic synthesised drum sounds fr Decent Sampler, more for shorter glitchier styles maybe.

I got free with it: Apocalyptic Visions (NI Massive presets), UJams USynth Drive (free anyway?), Meldas MFreeformAnalogEq and AudioThings Bubbles. So worth it for the last two.

Psychodrumma is much more fun for 41 cents more:

( I think buying only from small indie developers is an anti-consumerist loophole  )

If they want my money, they are going to have to do much better. I haven't even been tempted by any of the offers I've seen. I usually budget a couple of hundred for bargains but this year I gave myself carte blanche to pick up whatever I liked but, so far at least, bupkis.

And I thought it was just me.

I sank about 28 € in games though. :)

I bought a new fan on Friday, and it was 20% off, but it was the first chance I'd had to get to the shops since it started to get a bit warmer, I hadn't even clocked that it was actually BF until I got there.

There is a point at which one does not need more.
It may be due to limits on time or attention or artistic boundaries, rather than money.

Indeed. Although I often simply find that I won't improve over what I have with another purchase.

Some great examples for that were Rapid and Avenger. I demo'd both, and found that I have (similar) better stuff sonically already.

Simply saturated. Good for my wallet.

A different view:

Some years ago I said that the desire to buy more stuff actually drives my need to be productive - ie. I first need to use what I already have to justify buying even more tools.

Yeah, I jumped on Melodyne when it (just one stupid expensive version) first came out , mainly for its ability to pitch-correct and fairly accurately convert audio to midi. I 'trashed' this offer originally since I just don't use it to anywhere near its potential BUT a couple of the refined functions could actually inspire me to use it more*. So I caved. :tu:

* this is the premise I use to justify all kinds of upgrades even though in retrospect I know deep down I will eventually forget that I even got/have the thing. :dog:
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil
