I have both of course and I reach for serum first, since I’ve been using it for very long time, but your “worse” sound statement is so far off that it’s actually meaningless.astralprojection wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:45 pmno, of course not. vital is just a free serum, with worse sound. sorry to the vital fanboys, just keeping it a buck.martinjuenke wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:33 pmNo doubt about that!liquidsound wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:28 pmThe Pro version costs like Serum if it would go on sale.martinjuenke wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:14 pmliquidsound wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 6:10 pmyou mean, when they are going to offer you money to get it?![]()

Better? I don’t know, but Vital gets me to a different soundscape than Serum. Better? I don’t know….

im inclined to call YOUR comments meaningless tbh. i have my opinion you have yours, yet you felt you had to "attack" mine. THAT seems meaningless.liquidsound wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:16 pmNo at all. I only questioned it because you mentioned the upper harmonics of the saw wave hurting your ears. But after re-reading what you said, it was in comparison to another saw wave. To what source, another saw in Vital or to another synth?astralprojection wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:52 pmthats a silly question tbh, what is your point? yes i tried it obviosly, i spent probably 20 hours with vital.zzz00m wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:51 pmDid you try the LPF filter?astralprojection wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:30 pm not gonna lie here, vital sounds a bit harsh and its in the waveforms, so regardless of what you do to the sound, theres always a bit of sharpness. i dont think its aliasing but it seems just slightly annoying. and im talking just purely comparing a saw wave to another saw wave. the upper harmonics of the saw wave hurts my ears in vital.

so the remedy in your opinion; is to use a LPF to get rid of what is annyoing, instead of picking a synth that is NOT annoying? or why did you ask if ive used the LPF?zzz00m wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:18 pm

I thought Vital sounded bad without a high-pass filter too until I bought a new audio interface...
The difference between Vital and most other synths is that Vital produces sound up until Nyquist whereas most other synths cut the signal at 20khz, regardless of the sample rate. I had a cheap interface that supports 48kHz, but produces some form of aliasing with signals over 20kHz which made vital sound worse than other synths.
With the new interface, Vital sounds great, even if it goes over 20kHz.

thats ridiculous. what synth cuts its frequency at 20khz? name me a few since you said "most other synths". or just one. ill go into the daw right now on 192khz, and prove you wrong.Held wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:41 pm I thought Vital sounded bad without a high-pass filter too until I bought a new audio interface...

edit: matter of fact here is retrologue playing a saw wave (C3)
goes right up to the max that pro-q3 can handle which is about 25khz (and presumably it goes way higher than that)

I am far from a Vital fanboy, as it's not my favorite out of the 100+ other synths that I have. But it's good and I like it. I just adjust the filters on ANY synth until I get a pleasing sound...
But based on your rude reaction it is apparent that you came here just for drama. So yeah, done here as well!

I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to question your blanket statement that "Vital" in general has harmonics that you feel sounds harsh and hurts your ears, but then you specify a Saw Wave specifically. The only other claim you've made was that Vital was a free and worse sounding Serum.astralprojection wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:20 pmso the remedy in your opinion; is to use a LPF to get rid of what is annyoing, instead of picking a synth that is NOT annoying? or why did you ask if ive used the LPF?zzz00m wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:18 pm

So it's a fairly odd negative claim, and not helpful as a criticism. Maybe post the two SAW waves -- the 'harsh' one you don't like and the one you're comparing it to.
People who make those types of statements generally double down on the tech they've already dumped time, money, and effort into and find reasons to not like the grass on the other side. Not saying that's what you did, but it certainly gives that vibe.
Have you tried Vital?
