But maybe.. people sometimes equalize the bass with a similar idea with cutting the very low frequencies and the same time boost higher frequencies.
Anyway, I can't remember that current bass tutorials recommending MaxxBass/RBass. But this doesn't mean that still some users find a usage for this plugins.
