Been eyeing this deal too.
From the BFD forum thread re: M1.

It’s a technical debt issue, not a business decision. People will absolutely NOT be expected to pay for M1 support.

BFD3 will have full M1 support, and I am extremely keen on VST3 support too. We can’t really avoid that what with Cubase 12 going in the direction it is going.

We have other stuff going on that already has some amount of M1 and VST3 support. But getting all of that into BFD3 is seriously non-trivial. It will happen though. We’re about 80% complete with M1 support for BFD3. Once we figure out our AudioUnit issues, we’ll be all the way there and it will be released.

Id stay away from it and wait until it runs... since the launch of the m1 Macs nothing works on my m1. I got 31 expansions - 544,49 GB - it might work when I redownload everything but I don't have any desire to do that. It used to be a great program but whoever is responsible for development should immediately quit his job. Toontrack, XLN audio, even the kontakt libraries are way more reliable. If I would have used some of bfds content on some jobs it would be a disaster. And sure; you don't need to upgrade to an m1, but quite every other company got their plugins working after a while. It will be great when it runs some day but I think in their forum are people who use different systems and also got problems. For a software which used to cost around 300,- (I think if im not wrong) this is a no go.

Would doing the offline registration protect from the 90 day problem?

Great price for some nice kits, but as a Geist 1/2 and DCAM owner I'm definitely cautious on this one.

Post

I don't see any offline registration option.

Post

yeah i liked Geist :(

personally i would love for them to come out with v4 with a new/better GUI and workflow with M1 and VST3 compatibility. they have a great core there and excellent expansions (samples) and i too think it still is the best sounding of the drum sims... Addictive running a close second but inMusic doesn't have a very good track record from what i can tell so keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

cheers

Is Jamstix m1 native yet?

There is no offline option. I think you can use it offline for 90 days (not sure if that's been implemented or not - don't care about BFD anymore), but you will have to go online again to reauthorise once the clock runs out - if the buggy licence manager will let you of course.

Oh, and inMusic support is terrible. The website requirements don't even state the 90-day reauthorisation. In fact they added this 'feature' originally as a 30-day requirement without informing users. Once it was discovered by users they made it 90-day due to backlash. Unlike Cubase who tried a similar thing, inMusic will not backtrack on this or even be honest or upfront about such changes.

Well I've been quoted above, so I won't belabour the point - M1 support is coming.

It's also possible to pick it up for £50/$50 from the main site if one already owns a previous version of BFD. Been on offer like this for months - though I haven't picked it up yet. Might well be worth it for the cymbals but I'm not in a music production phase right now.

Not yet, and I have the same issues there (if you don’t run the entire DAW in Rosetta then it doesn’t work property). However… if you do run them together in Rosetta, jamstix + BFD is a lot of fun :)

Yeah, I was looking at Jamstix a while back to do just that, but it wasn't M1 Native yet and looked like it hadn't been updated in a long time. If they ever update it, I'd definitely consider that.

Thank you all very much for a lot of aggravation you saved me with the revelation that BFD has a usability problem, so say many unhappy customers.
On one hand I understand BFD 3 may have a new lease on life and it takes cash for some essential things, but they never convinced me that it wasn't more of a drag than its worth from my end.

So I'm thinking Jamstix, not sure; but if someone spots number of machines you can license Jamstix on, I'd be much obliged; but I'll search a bit more. :tu:

If you follow the BFD forum it's looking like BFD4 won't hit till 2024. A year is a long time to wait for some much-needed development and it will still have the 90-day phone home crap and terrible inMusic 'support'.

You'd think if there is ONE THING that designates professional from wannabe, is that true pros use their tools to make money and if they cannot legally access their own projects, then the term "pro" ceases.

Maybe their ears aren't tone deaf but the rest of them are.

The times I've been burned :dog: and you all saved me from a sure one
