I don't mind the upgrade plan. I bought Bitwig 1 and two years of updates for Bitwig 3 and I will possibly get another update this summer depending on the next year's plans. I got more than enough for what I bought. I like this way more than other companies' business models, others just don't like it. No one liked the idea that we had to pay for a separate package, but that is what other daws do. They make an upgrade with a number with no meaning and make people pay for them. With Bitwig you just always have known what it was going to cost, $10.75 a month when bought on sale for $129.

Looks like everything I said was right. As there is no 4.5/5.0 on the horizon, means you all pay for Spectral Suite anyway with your upgrade plan. Bravo Bitwig, you tricked everybody once again!
I see it this way... Come January (just after the sale expires), 5.0 will be bigger cause the developers will have had more time to add new stuff to it. If 5.0 isn't impressive, then I will be disappointed but until then, it's an unknown.

Can you buy the update from a reseller or Bitwig direct and activate it later. I don’t like to pick it up now while on sale and activate it at 4.5 or later.

Sure you can activate it later. If you buy directly from Bitwig, remember to mark "Buy as a gift" so it gives it to you as a code that you can use later. Otherwise it activates immediately.
