do I see right that the Mod Matrix depth knobs can NOT be targets for the XY Pads?

Some patches seem to be using the Control A/B offset value for this purpose.
But when I try to do it for myself, it's not working, because it is not in the drop down list.

User Manual:
"Although the 24 matrix Depth knobs are not normally available in the XY target menu, if you
move one it will appear in ‘Assign Recent’ at the top of that menu."
