HW purchase of the year?

I started this thread with a pic of my bass amp replacement system. It enables me to play bass for hours at a time while on the road. It makes me so happy to use it and play.

I also bought a Teenage Engineering OP-Z which is also an absolute blast for creating and, cough, jamming some electronic beats and patterns while travelling.

For me it’s not art, it’s just music.

MPC One - it's super fast to use and it's distraction free. I thought that it may be annoying to use but it's fine. One of the reasons why I took it over Live II is the amount of buttons which makes menu diving much smaller.
I'm using it as a sequencer for synths and it's replacing Korg SQ64 in that role.

I would also put Behringer 2600 but I don't remember if I bought it this or last year.

Congrats on the OP-Z! Are you getting the line module? It’s not an essential unless OP-z is your main music maker. Otherwise it’s just more fun with fx loops.

I use mine more for just fun after getting into Elektron boxes, but it is very Elektron like.

i love my make noise stuff that i bought as well, but the cre8audio boxes, pack so much in to the tiny packages and they're cheap as chips, hard not to put them in number one really

I've only made one hardware purchase this year, so it's an easy decision - Erae Touch.

It's actually proven to be better than I had expected. I prefer using it to my Roli Seaboard and it is way more customisable than Roli's Lightpads, so it has them beat, too. The only annoyance is you need the PSU for it, it can't power it over USB.

To beat a Seaboard is easy, it doesn‘t beat my LinnStrument though, but I can use it for so many different things… Its my third controller I can play as LinnStrumentalist. The other one is a Sensel, but that came a bunch of years earlier…

I dunno about "easy", I am still plenty fond of my Seaboard Block (and I still have no interest at all in Linnstrument). I was never such a huge fan of the Seaboard Rise I had for a couple of years, the Block suits me way better and I still love my Lightpads, too. I think I have 8 of them now.

Have you tried it with drum sticks? I’m curious how it would hold up. I’ve always wanted to buy an Octapad but just don’t think the price makes sense all these years later. This makes sense to me considering all its uses.

As sturdy as it seems, I don't want to take a chance on using drum sticks and breaking something. But there are some great drum pad thingies you can get for way less than this. My bandmate has an Alesis SamplePad Pro and it's a third of the price of an Erae Touch - https://www.thomann.de/intl/alesis_samplepad_pro.htm

There is a much cheaper, 4 pad version of it, too.

There are a number of videos of people using sticks with the ERAE Touch. The company has promoted the concept in their own videos.

Not very exciting but I've got a lot of use out of a Pusher Labs rebranded Behringer XTouch Mini - best £15 (as I remember)I've ever spent on eBay. Mostly use it with Lightroom but it's really useful.

Best instrument was an Epiphone Regent - it's about the only electric I own that I can play for more than an hour without descending into the bowels of metal or my pitiful brand of KK Null experimentalism. Yes, that's probably a good thing
