I am trying to process audio through a plugin that accepts sidechain input, and have been unable to figure out the correct routing in standalone Patchwork on macOS. As a specific, simple example, I have a synth plugin in one slot, and in another slot I have the Arturia Mini V3 plugin (AU) that supports processing sidechain audio through its filter. The Mini V3 plugin comes with a preset Template->External Input that is configured to support external audio.

From here I have tried setting the Audio I/O of the synth plugin slot to Output Channels 3/4, and then set the inputs of the Mini V3 slot to those same channels, for example, but I do not hear any audio output. I have tried various setting combinations and have looked through the manual for a specific example, but haven't seen one.

Can someone please provide some specific guidance about how one routes audio to a plugin sidechain input as in this scenario? I have been using AU versions of all of the plugins, if that matters.

How is the output of the Mini V3 set? To outputs 1&2?

Also, if you take out the Mini V3 and just use the synth (with its output set to 1&2), do you hear it?

Yes, I have the outputs of Mini V3 set to 1 & 2.

Yes, with Mini V3 removed (or the corresponding slot disabled) I can hear the synth in the first slot both with Outputs set to 1&2 and with them set to 3&4. The latter surprised me but clearly I don't understand how the routing works properly!

Ack! This does not to appear to have been a routing issue with Patchwork. After a machine reboot, this is working as expected. Should have tried that before posting...

Update for anybody having a similar issue: it appears that my problem was a MIDI routing issue. It looks like Mini V3 needs to have MIDI routed to it for this patch to output audio, so the problem here was a lack of understanding about how Mini V3 handles external audio, rather than a sidechain or Patchwork issue.

Thanks for the heads up!
