My favorite vowel filter is the "Talking Modulator" in MDE-X and MS-20 FX. It works well with saw waves and has a nice lofi quality. Flowtones by Toneboosters has an awesome formant filter that needs to be its own plugin!

iZotope Trash 2 has a very unique vowel filter which I really wish was available elsewhere because other than that I don't really like the plugin very much overall.

I don´t know how good it is but there is the Formant Filter in the free kilohearts plugins...

The formant filter in Infiltrator 2 is very good.

The vowel formant filter in the filter section and the filter segment of its effects in Absynth 5 is incredible, especially at 100%. If I say much more I’d have to kill ya.

Sugar Bytes WOW 2 Filterbox is also pretty juicy!

Where in Absynth would this vowel formant filter be? I found these filters:

And only in Waveshape mode, you can select a morph wave, but I have not found a way to modulate it so it sounds like a vowel.

Care to share your approach? I'm super curious!

Would the Biovox tool in Izotope's VocalSynth fit the bill? I've only used the 'Breath' adjustment here, but I was very happy with the result.

A vowel has three band passes… You need a dedicated vowel filter like the Orb. Look up the resonances it needs…
