Hmmmm.....David Tremblay might be the perfect choice to oversee using the GPU in Apple Silicon for DSP....

Universal Audio’s Vice President of Technology and Chief Architect, Dave Tremblay, has moved to Apple as Senior Manager - Audio Systems.
Previous to his time at UA, he was at Avid responsible for plugin architecture where he headed up the development and transition to AAX. As the architect of AAX, Avid's audio plug-in platform, he was responsible for the design and implementation of the platform as well as the porting of all Avid's plug-in portfolio. In that capacity, he functioned as a technical lead for three development teams in addition to writing a lot of code.

It is very unlikely to mean NOTHING. He is a significant talent pulled away from an important job at UA. He would not likely make such a move unless he had something interesting to sink his teeth into.

You can make whatever declaration you want... as boldly as you want. It's just unfounded speculation. It could be he went to Apple for a big fat check. His job may have nothing to do with Logic even. Maybe he will be designing the sound system for the new Apple Car.

Yes.. but I assume that Apple's own efforts to harness using the GPU's in their own Silicon can go deeper into audio intergration.

I'll probably be very wrong (I hope so) but I expect another 3-4 point releases before v11.
I'd be very suprised if we see v11 before the end of 2023
My other host is Bruce Forsyth

I hoped that 10years ago when they advertised OpenCL. :)

Me too!

But now there is extra incentive with the potential of iPad Pro.. and Apple itself designs the GPU.

Wow... from VP and Chief Architect to Senior Manager is a pretty big step down... in the tech world, Senior Manager is, well, actually kind of a junior manager position. I don't know how Apple does their hierarchies, but it's pretty standard to follow this hierarchy:

- College new grad would be engineer 1
- After a year or so engineer 2 (so we're talking like a 23-25 YO)
- Senior Engineer or Manager (maybe 4-6 years into career)
- Principal Engineer or Senior Manager (maybe 7-10 years into career)
- Senior Principal or Director of Engineering (at this point timelines get fuzzy)
- Senior Director of Engineering
- VP of Engineering

You'd think he'd at least come in as a Senior Director.

apoclypse wrote: Fri Jan 13, 2023 12:16 am ...since Apple now has the AU plugins as a service they essentially run in a different process than Logic so when they crash they are less likely to take the whole DAW with them (like Bitwig). However I do get occasional crashes for non-plugin related tasks in Logic.
Is this an option or the default way Logic works?
M1 logic works like that, rosetta/intel logic doesn't, afaik
I see, got it. Well I'm purely Apple Silicon (M1 on my main DAW and M2 on my laptop) and run everything native. So, that's good!

I suspect that LP11 will be Apple Silicon only. I just have a feeling that's what Apple will do. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine
