Update: I went ahead and entered my activation code at the prompt when loading the plugin for the first time, but it doesn't work because I had previously redeemed that code in the iLok License Manager, so I guess I'll need to contact Soundtoys about it:

I've already eliminated all ilok plugins from my projects, the only ilok plugins I use are in repair or mastering.
I hardly use the few Soundtoys I have because of ilok and the extra pain doing computer upgrades which is painful enough.

Lol at all the iLok haters, install software, plugin iLok, done…

I think I’ve had one issue with it in the 10+ years I’ve been using it.

have you considered reading the manual?

you've redeemed the licence. you manage its location in the ilok licence manager.

I'm not a hater if something wastes my time and makes things more difficult I drop it.
There is so many competing plugins that do a similar job, iLok needs to dragged into the modern age of activation and deactivation via a web for me to care. I'm just indifferent to them.

Thank god I don't need the web when I install one of my iLok plugins.
That copy protection is exactly the reason I have 100s od Softube, UVI etc licences and zero IK, Arturia, NI etc...

You learn to love iLok when your machine and/hard drive dies and you have to contact all the devs manually to try an get your license auths revoked. A computer failure is a much higher risk than a iLok dying. But if you prefer that higher risk for... what? then ok. you get to be you.

It’s a personal decision whether to use iLock via dongle or machine. Neither one can be generalised as objectively better.

I’ve got 3 companies using iLock. Laptop HD died. I wrote one email and copy/pasted it to the companies, took a couple of days to get positive replies from all

FOR ME this was worth it so as not to have a dongle connected to my laptop when I wanted to work on music in a bar/cafe/train etc.

YMMV, of course.

Is this still true, I can't find any info on their site about non-iLok activation.

We have recently found out that an issue that users have reported for many years was related to iLok. Randomly, projects would not open because our plug-ins - which are not iLok-protected - would crash. What happened? Users had an iLok protected plug-in in the project and the host would load that plug-in right before our plug-in. And the iLok software would somehow corrupt the memory that our plug-in was living in, and then our plug-in crashed. This also happens with plug-in of many others. No word from PACE if this was ever addressed or ever will be.

I applaud Soundtoys for moving away from this thing.

How widespread is this issue for other devs? I've never had a problem with uhe and iLok and I use both all the in my work. I'd love it if uhe products were iLok as well. Machine auth is too risky and annoying to me.
