Absolutely. If a developer calls anything an emulation then it should be as accurate as possible. Otherwise why bother calling it an emulation?

But my point stands that since not everyone is going to pay $3,100+ for a hardware compressor (or $25,000 for an classic analog synth) then they're really only left with deciding if they like the sound of the plugin or not.

In other words, whether an emulation sounds like the hardware or not becomes irrelevant if you're never going to own the hardware. At that point the only thing that really matters is whether you like the sound of the plugin or not. Don't like the emulation? Fine, sell a kidney and buy the hardware.

I think we sometimes get too hung up on "emulation" when we should just be focusing on whether the plugin sounds good in our music.....

Or... just try other emulations... I haven't tried this Lindell one. Maybe I'll demo it so I can add an actual opinion in this thread. :hihi: But I only have the UAD 2500 to compare it too.

I have to say though, with emulations, really they're trying to capture the character of something real. I'm not sure that many software developers are trying to make character compressors in the same way. Or... if they are, then maybe that bit gets lost in the 'noise'. To me it seems only emulations are clearly going for character. e.g. I have never heard anyone say Fabfilter Pro C is a character compressor - but you know it has 8 modes, so maybe it is.

And I hear you on this, get this emulation stuff out of the way of the music. Make the music, then use the tools (incl mixing skills) you have to make it sound as good as possible.

This emulation stuff is really more on the side of technical sound engineering and mixing, rather than the side of making music. And good emulations can really help get there, and maybe more easily than with perfect 'clean' compressors.

I subscribe to this notion that if when mixing you can make 100 small improvements to the sound, then you can get a big improvement overall.

(And then I smash it all through a limiter. :hihi: j/k)

Bought the SBC today without demoing because I like Lindell. What a shot into my knee... This one doesn´t punch, smack, grit - just adds earwax to everything. Expected it to sound like the UAD 2500 which was smacking and smashing when I tested it. Blunder.

Check out TrackComp2. Has an excellent 2500 that compares very favorably to UAD. Also has an excellent 1176A, 1176D, LA-2A, Zener, SSL Buss, SSL Channel, DBX-160, Chandler Zener and a unique DMG Audio mode.

I was thinking of picking it up today, too, since it can be had for $25 with the voucher right now.

The main thing holding me back is I don't really want to give Lindell Audio any more money until the plugins I already bought get M1 updates.

UAD is available Native now. You should be able to get the 2500 from them soon enough!

The Trackcomp sounds exciting (will wait for a sale now). Well, I´m equipped with compressor plugins and I didn´t really need one another. The cheap price impulse-drived me. 30€ isn´t a big thing, but I feel like I fooled myself. Will check out the Trackcomp though. There is the good old Precision Compressor from UAD I have, like and which is suitable for so many tasks.

... and is on sale right now, too. Could be had for 100 bucks. Since I am eligible for the UAD Ultimate 10, I´m a little shy to invest in single plugins :)

You need a UAD card to purchase perpetual licenses, though.

I’m not ever going to rent plugins.

I don't think they do sales, only introductory pricing for new plugins. Your only hope there is if someone is selling their licence cheap.
I seem to remember in being £20 to sell and it becomes NFR. Buying new at full price is the only real option.

They usually don't have any sales. I consider that good because you can buy without fear.

Trackcomp needs a bit of knowledge and it's not without flaws, but when you really start to understand it it's fantastic. One of the best compressor plugins. They have great working loudness compensation as well, it's so difficult to work without when you're getting used to that.

DMG are great people as well and have long time support for their plugins.

I would rather get Trackcomp than 3 impluse buys. 8)

SoftSynthLover99 wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:27 pm I already have the Lindell 50 Series and that one already does a good API 2500 sound. How does this one compare? Same code with more features or totally different emulation?
Pretty sure it's the same code with more features.
